My comments would make sense if you looked at the actual data we have And considered the bias to it due to widespread under testing. I am not saying this is just an ordinary cold or flu. Last flu season, the flu killed 80k people in the USA. Projections for COVID19 are 100k-250k. If it’s 250k then that will make it 3 times deadlier than flu. That is serious. What level of freak out is sufficient for something 3 times deadlier than flu with a longer incubation period than flu? I think it’s fair that your fear over this be 5 times greater then your fear over flu. Now my fear of flu is like 0.01%. I probably only get the flu shot 30% of the time because I am not overly worried about flu. So my comments are in line with my fear of 0.05%

I just searched the site... I didn’t see one comment on here expressing grief over the 80k people that lost their lives to flu last year. You guys are all insensitive! How can you not care about all the people dying of flu /sarcasm
Yeah, we should all go back to business as usual to find out the real numbers of this virus. Then we can truly compare it to the flu lol
I mean I agree with that... but only because I’m frustrated with the whole thing to the point where I don’t care if it kills more people. Our current projection by medical experts with what we are doing now estimate 100k-250k Deaths. If we stopped doing that and the numbers doubled to 200k-500k. Meh.
I wish I cared more. I also don’t care about the 80k that died of flu last year, the 600k that died of heart disease, or the 650k that died of cancer. they are just numbers to me... oh and the number of births last year? 3.8 million. Even with all these deaths every year we are still growing every year

It isn’t my statistics, it’s the statistics. But yeah that’s true, I didn’t say it only affects old people. They are just more vulnerable. Here you go though, this is outdated but the more recent one would look similar. Just too lazy to look it up
And these numbers are biased because we are significantly under testing. If we expanded testing to the whole population then the number of cases would expand by 100-1000 times (this is speculation). If total number of cases increases then that changes the mortality and hospitalization rates obviously.

Those numbers are low cause it’s only ny. And your statement is speculation that can’t be proved one way or the other (and neither can any other what ifs). If we actually tested a statistically significant part of the population blindly at several points in time then we could properly project the gravity of the situation. But we didn’t so we can’t. I’m not saying social distancing doesn’t slow the spread, that’s obvious it does. But guessing how bad it would be if we didn’t can’t really be known.
My opinion - probably not millions. Maybe a half a million though. That can’t be proved either, it’s just an unfounded guess just like yours

You guys realize I’m not saying it’s not serious right? I’m just saying the level of freak out over the death toll is too much and idc about people dying that I do not know. That’s the TLDR version
March 31st was 4 days ago. At that time NYC by itself had 1000 deaths by then and the state had 75k cases. Idk where you got those statistics dated the 31st but they're wrong if they were from NY

But it good news for you guys - Number if patients in intensive care in Italy kinda leveled off last week and yesterday was the first time it dropped by almost 2%.
So my bosses wife works in a old people home. They are testing 5 people at the home and my boss and his wife have had regular contact for the last couple days. Yay.
