The "Padawan" book reminds me, I downloaded all the Jedi Apprentice young adult books to read (EU version of Obi-Wan as a Padawan stories). I read them as a kid, but remember very little. I know they're basic kids novels, but they should at least be sort of fun. I'm going to start them when I'm done with the X-Wing/Rogue Squadron comics I'm reading right now.
I'm also almost done with Death Troopers. It's ok. The two cameo characters should not have been in it though, they feel out of place
They really hired Sam Maggs to write one of those, huh
Nah, just one story in the anthology book. Idgaf about that one anyway. I'm glad we're getting another Obi Wan/Qui Gon book. Master and Apprentice was fantastic
The anti-Disney Star Wars crowd is really starting to annoy me.
Dont get me wrong, I still dont like the Disney canon. I stand by the position I took when the sequel trilogy came out. I have 0 desire to read canon books, or watch canon shows. But I've just decided to ignore what they're doing, enjoy the old Legends EU, and pick and choose some of the new material I DO like (Jedi Fallen Order, Visions) - basically consider them fun fan fiction, and go back to Legends. And I've been LOVING Legends. There's so much I still haven't played or read, I can spend years enjoying Star Wars still, and I'll never have to give a shred of attention to Disney Wars.
But some of these people just DO. NOT. STOP. Yes, the new books have NOTHING to do with the EU. Yes, some of them are full of retcons or contradictions. Yes they keep portaying Luke in a negative light. Why are these people still so surprised and angry still? Move on, this is the Star Wars Disney is telling.
There are two separate Star Wars franchises now. Pick the one you like, and move on. We lost, it's over.
I'd rather these groups of people talk about why Legends is so fun and great instead of constantly bitching about Disney Wars.
EDIT: Equally annoyed with Disney exclusive fans too. The "StAr WaRs Is FoR kIdS" thing is so annoying, and completely ignores a lot of the more adult themes Star Wars has ALWAYS had, especially in the games, comics, and books. The animosity towards the Legends stories, and fans of Legends is equally as toxic as the constant Disney bitching. I don't care if the EU is no longer canon, I like it, why does that bother Disney fans so much? And the complete disdain for Luke and the OT is starting to get REALLY weird. Literally saw an unironic "why are people still talking about A New Hope" comment today.
Why is Star Wars like this? It's really become two completely incompatible franchises with both fandoms wanting their franchise to be the "true" one.
Actually though, I read a great SW analogy awhile back.
Star Wars is a content restaurant. Possibly the best restaurant of all time. It has all your favorite dishes you loved since whenever you first found the joint. What was on the menu when you found it likely serves as the basis of your opinion of what it is supposed to be. It serves the best food. But the restaurant has been here forever now. It has a larger menu. It still has all of your old favorites, but now there are new menu items also. Most people wouldn’t scream and shout that the restaurant is ruined forever now. Most people wouldn’t yell at other customers for ordering a different meal than the one you like or for enjoying the new items. Just get what you like and enjoy it.
The fan divide also seems bigger than what it really is because your on the internet about it. People are competing for clicks, views, and ad revenue and using in of the biggest media empires ever created to do it.
EU has a wide variety of quality to it. Some of it is great, some of it is trash. New Canon gives them a chance to jetsam the trash and cherry pick the good shit. It allows SW movies to be fresher. Anything can happen now rather than them telling 20 years of stories that I already know. EU originally killed Thrawn after 3 books for fucks sake. New Canon allows the story to move FORWARD! EU is either old and dusty or it is stuff that basically never happened. It achieves nothing other than playing with different concepts in an previous established universe. My jump in point was Luke, staring toward the skies, gazing off into the future. Still waiting to see that play out, even if I didn’t like what they did with most of the ST.

That's fair. The internet breeds bullshit. Still hopeful they'll release more EU canon stories someday. Even if they label it "Legends" or whatever. There are great characters and eras still to be explored further.
But yea, end of day, like what you like. Im done being mad.
I'm done with Legends because I grew up reading it. I read Heir to the Empire. I read Shatterpoint. I read Xwing. I've read it all. I want new stuff.
But despite what you believe there are still good Star Wars books being made. Not every new book is some massive betrayal and retcon of Legends. My favorite, Alphabet Squadron trilogy, doesn't feature any movie characters and has a plot that is essentially independent from the movies. It could easily fit into Legends lore wise. So why not indulge in it?
I dont give a shit about canon really. I used to read good star wars books, I still read good star wars books. Nothing has changed for me as a consumer of star wars media (when it comes to the books. The movies are a different story)
Finished Death Troopers a few weeks ago, and Red Harvest last week.
Death Troopers was fun. Not essential by any means, but something different for Star Wars. It's super gory, and I like the idea of a Star Destroyer full of zombie Stormtroopers drifting menacingly in space for unsuspecting ships to run into. Though I really didn't like the inclusion of Han and Chewie in the story. It didn't make any sense for them to be in it, they never mention the event in any other book. It was just cheap fan service and would have been better if they were new characters.
Red Harvest was also fun. It was cool to get another look at Sith alchemy and science beyond Darth Bane and Darth Plagueis. It's also incredibly gory, and actually has a line straight from the movie Taken in it which I thought was hilarious. Again, not essential, but still fun for something different. Though the way it ended makes me think there was a planned third book for the "Star Wars Zombies" saga that never had a chance to be written.
Found an old letter from 2005 sent from Lucasfilm. I had a project in 5th grade to write to someone famous who inspired us, and I wrote to George Lucas. They sent some tattoos too lol

It's so dark, and mature, and graphic. Its great
Will be starting Death Troopers tonight for spooky season!
Interesting
