Me and my dad get there with about 15 minutes till doors, line was already huge as hell. We hop in line and wait awhile while its 45 degrees outside. Magic stick is the upstairs of a bowling alley with kickass pizza. Anyway we get inside and its shoots from 45 to 95. It was hot as tits in there. Shirts with dates sold out except for small, so I just got a regular Black Dahlia Shirt. Right around the time the first band came on, tickets sold out.
First band was local and were put on the bill that day because Obscura's drummer managed to get 3rd degree burns making them unable to perform. They were your regular local band with breakdowns. Annoying and couldn't wait for them to finish. To paint a picture of the venue, it is a huge room. At the end is a bar, then as you walk up a little bit the room is divided. The right side is for the stage and crowd, the left side is a chill spot with like 8 pool table. Right after the first band I started making my way up.
Hatesphere comes on, and having not heard a song by them until they came on, I thought they were kick ass. The guys were funny and were there to have a good time. Right after typing that last sentence I looked them up on wikipedia. Turns out the vocalist was a fill in since theirs left, and the rest of the band has only been in since 07. Still funny regardless.
Augury was..OK in my opinion. The music was alright, but they were corny as hell. They'd play a song and the vocalist would start "So do you guys believe in vampires" or "Do you think we are alone in this universe? I dont think we're alone on this planet." And he had such a serious tone I just wanted to laugh. I wouldn't mind seeing them open up for anybody else, but wouldn't pay to see them headline.
Then finally the band I was there for, BLACK DAHLIA MURDER. The atmosphere was so great, hometown final show of the tour. I was one person behind when they first came out. There is no barrier so basically the front row automatically turns into a barrier. About 30 seconds after they come out, the place goes wild and people flood up front, Trevor loses the mic and it ends up around my neck. He grabs a spare but they get him the main one. This little chick gets smashed and ends up sitting on the stage for 2 songs before crowd surfing out. I end up right against the stage fighting for balance when I finally get one leg on the stage to stabalize myself. I just happen to be halfway sitting where Trevor keeps walking to get close to the crowd. I swear that fucker owes me dinner. I took his junk straight to my face and then a minute late got pushed and had my face rub straight up his stomach. Not the greatest feeling in the world. He told me I couldnt be sitting there, so I'd get my leg off, then 5 minutes later be stuck in the same position. After awhile I get my camera out and record Christ Deformed. A couple songs later I'm sweating like I've run four miles, dehydrated and my shoulders are tired as fuck
from holding myself up so long.. I decide, what the hell, why not record myself stage diving. That was the only way out. The stage dive was semi successfull, I ended up on my back a few feet later...and the video isn't that good. Anyway I chug two bottles of water and head back up for the rest of the set. I then record Miasma and I Will Return..
As many shows as I've been to, this one is really close to the top if not the top. The crowd experience was amazing. I'm going to pull and Erik+ 12/10
I didn't have any trouble with that..mainly because I went on my back. But it was lulzy at the end, they were pulling everyone up onstage..but since they did that, there was nobody there to catch them..Everybody took a nice fall.
Also I'm kind of disappointed. Trevor said they will be there to hang out at the Unearth show Saturday...I have no money I like Unearth too. The support sucks though.
