GODSMACK PLOTTING 2012 TOUR WITH STAIND, PREPPING LIVE ALBUM

Godsmack frontman Sully Erna has been spending some of his time away from the band and touring behind his debut solo album, ‘Avalon.’ But Godsmack fans don’t need to worry that he’s forgotten about them — in fact, they have plenty to look forward to in the new year, including a new live album, a covers project and a co-headlining tour with Staind.

Erna shared the news during a recent interview with the Boston Herald, during which he also reflected on his plans to commemorate the ‘Avalon’ tour — which he said “showed the power of music and what it can do when it’s presented the proper way” — with a 3D concert film.

“Just like any other tour, it took us a week or a week and a half to get into a groove … and polish the fluidity of the performance,” Erna admitted. “But it came together because all the musicians in this band are so talented. … It felt really like it grew internally for us, and externally for the audience it was smoother.

“It was very refreshing to see people get it. It really translated to people,” he continued. “Every night, there were people in the audience with tissues, wiping tears from their face.”

As for Godsmack, Erna says current plans call for the band to head into the studio in January to mix a live album, record some covers that “inspired us along the way,” and hit the road with Staind in the spring. A busy year’s ahead, to be certain — but Erna embraces the opportunity to keep bringing music to the fans. “It’s nice to touch people on a musical and emotional level,” he said. “I have a lot of energy, and I’m looking forward to getting it out there.”

Earlier today The Gunz Show host Mike Gunzelman revealed that Florida pop-punk/hardcore band A Day To Remember is suing their label Victory Records for breach of contract. Gunzelman had the following to say:

"I just announced and read the legal complaint from A Day To Remember suing Victory Records... thus no new songs, no major label, until lawsuit is figured out. I'm probably going to get in trouble for reading it but oh well."

According to Courthouse News Service, legal action was actually initiated in late-May. Among the complaints put forth by A Day To Remember is that Victory owes them $75,000 in royalties.

In light of A Day To Remember's litigation against Victory Records going public, Victory has responded with the following statement, put forth by their attorney Robert S. Meloni:

"Recent reports of claims filed by the Victory artist A Day to Remember (ADTR) in litigation presently pending in US District Court in the Northern District of Illinois (a case that was just transferred from Nashville upon Victory's successful motion based upon improper venue) have misleadingly stated that the principal issue in the case concerns the payment of royalties. The lawsuit, filed shortly after the band hired new management, is really about the band's refusal to fulfill their 5-album contractual commitment to Victory and their newfound desire to move to a major label. Recycled and often apocryphal stories of misguided and unsuccessful attempts by a few Victory bands to jump ship from the label that put them on the map have one common truthful thread; they always end badly for the band. In those cases, the bands eventually seek reconciliation and often ask to return to the Victory fold after having been disappointed by their post-Victory experiences. Victory is confident that this dispute will be resolved to the satisfaction of both the band and Victory, and that ADTR will continue to deliver great music to Victory in the coming years. Victory continues to honor its commitment to ADTR by placing its significant resources behind the band's current album, What Separates Me From You, which continues to climb the charts and meet or exceed Victory's expectations. The band, in the meantime, has enjoyed the benefits of the hundreds of thousands of dollars in record royalties generated from their album sales, which Victory accounts for in full compliance with its contract. Victory's job remains the same- work hard, sell records and abide by our agreements."

They're not terrible live, but nothing grand.
