Swedish tech-death assassins Spawn of Possession have completed their highly anticipated third full-length album, Incurso, and are preparing it for release upon the helpless masses this Spring.
Featuring current and former members of tech-titans Necrophagist and Obscura, Spawn of Possession's excellent Cabinet debut was released by Unique Leader Records in 2003. But when Noctambulant followed three years later via Neurotic Records, the album's unabridged, relentless technical death metal urgency instantly made the name Spawn of Possession stick into the minds of metallers worldwide like a rusty cleaver. It has now been over five years since the release of Noctambulant, and diehard fans are ravenous for the next installment of this now cult favorite act's expanding discography.
Earlier this year Spawn of Possession entered Pama Studios in Kristianpoel, Sweden, with engineer Magnus Sedenberg, to track their debut for Relapse Records. Devastating riffs, jaw-dropping time-signatures and improbably complex songwriting coalesce to create an opus of next-level death metal on Incurso , which the band promises to be their most supreme work to date, and more devastating than ever.
Having recently completed the recording of this brutal masterpiece, the band and label are coordinating the final details for Incurso, which will be set in stone and announced over the coming weeks.

^ YES!!!!!!!!!!!! \m/ !!!!!!!!!! Spawn of Possession is so dope!
He Satan - remember that time at ramv's when I trolled everyone by posting a fake tour that included Spawn of Possession and Bloodbath and I can't remember the third band I listed... maybe Necrophagist or Bolt Thrower. Everyone was so excited for about 45 minutes until someone questioned my tour info. lol ) ) that was funny.
Bay Area death metal pioneer, Autopsy, has completed recording and re-mastering work on the upcoming, All Tomorrow's Funerals, due out February 28th on Peaceville Records. This monstrous release will contain all of Autopsy's EP's re-mastered by the band themselves, as well as new cuts, totaling 22 tracks all together. Everything from 'Retribution For The Dead' to the now sold-out, 'The Tomb Within,' will be presented on CD and DLP with all original artworks, liner notes from the band and new cover art from renowned artist, Matt Cavotta.
Said the band, "Well, we've finished recording a few new tracks for the upcoming collection album All Tomorrow's Funerals, and they came out brutal and heavy as hell. Along with the newly written songs, we did a revamped version of “Mauled To Death,” which is the very last of the old songs that needed a proper album quality recording. This album will also contain all four EP's, all of which are out of print, as well as a compilation track from 1991, so the grand total is 22 tracks. It's something we've wanted to do for quite awhile, getting all the loose chunks together in one place rather than having them split up and added on as bonus tracks here and there. Everything has been painstakingly re-mastered with the band's guidance and sounds better and more crushing than ever. And don't worry, we didn't get carried away and ruin anything! Combine all that with killer new cover art from Matt Cavotta and we've got one hell of release in the works. Look for it in February 2012.
"We are now working on all new material for the next album, due out late 2012/early 2013 and we can definitely promise more of what you would expect from Autopsy. There will be no compromise and no holding back. If you want 100% pure death metal brutality, you will certainly get it."
Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo has revealed that the band is currently writing material for a new album. Details are sparse, with Lombardo offering only the following: "Slayer is writing a new record."
Earlier this year Slayer singer/bassist Tom Araya stated that the band would not begin wrting a new album until guitarist Jeff Hanneman's condition was sufficiently improved. As you may recall, Hanneman has been battling necrotizing fasciitis since early-2011. Since Hanneman is integral to Slayer's song-writing process (after all, Hanneman did write Slayer classics like "Raining Blood," "War Ensemble," "South of Heaven," and "Angel of Death"), one could infer that his condition has indeed improved significantly. Lombardo seems to have more or less confirmed this, saying "Jeff is still recovering and doing better."
We're sure further details will materialize shortly.
Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman has issued an update regarding his side project G.T.O. (aka Giraffe Tongue Orchestra), which also includes Brent Hinds (Mastodon), Eric Avery (ex-Jane's Addiction), and Thomas Pridgen (ex-The Mars Volta).
As you may know, Mastodon and Dillinger are currently on tour together, affording Hinds and Weinman the opportunity to write new material. Weinman had the following to say:
"Brent and I have already got new material. The guy just spits out riffs like a riff machine. Day off tomorrow in Colorado and we shall be working all day on sweet, sweet melodies sure to make the young girls cry and the old ones scream (not necessarily in that order)."
Aussie technical death metal band, Psycroptic, has announced that its fifth studio album, The Inherited Repression, will be out on February 10th in Europe. The upcoming nine-track full-length will mark the band's second album on Nuclear Blast Records.
Commented Psycroptic guitarist, Joe Haley, "The Inherited Repression is far and away my favorite Psycroptic record thus far - all of us in the band think this. It's the age-old cliché from bands when they talk about their new album as being the best of their career, blah, blah, but I have to say it because it's true. We wouldn't think there is a point of going on if we couldn't outdo each record prior. We are certainly not playing music for anything else than the love of creating it and performing it.
"The Inherited Repression is quite different from anything we have done in terms of song writing and structure, and we spent a lot longer writing and demoing the songs before we recorded it, which you can tell. It's a very dynamic album - the fast elements faster, the slow elements slower, and a lot of light and dark binding it together. It's a very catchy album as well - you can tap your foot, bang your head or anything else you want. Basically it has a lot of groove on it from start to finish."
The track-list for The Inherited Repression is:
1. Carriers of the Plague 2. Forward to Submission 3. Euphorinasia 4. The Throne of Kings 5. Unmasking the Traitors 6. Become the Cult 7. From Scribe to Ashes 8. Deprivation 9. The Sleepers Have Awoken
The Inherited Repression was produced, engineered and mixed by Haley, while Alan Douches will handle mastering duties.
"We had the luxury of recording in my home studio without deadlines, so we spent a long time on getting it how we wanted. We can't wait for people to hear it, and get out and play the songs live!"
Stay tuned for more information on Psycroptic and The Inherited Repression.
Season of Mist is proud to welcome doom legends Saint Vitus to the roster! The band just completed their eighth studio album, their first since 1995. Saint Vitus is now made of guitarist Dave Chandler, drummer Henry Vasquez, bassist Mark Adams and seminal vocalist Scott "Wino" Weinrich, who recorded his first album with the band in over 20 years!
"Making this album was really a blast," Dave Chandler comments. "Being able to live in an environment where all we had to concentrate on was the new material, became very inspiring. And along with our new drummer Henry Vasquez and label Season of Mist, this record has given us a new opportunity to show everyone that we still have more to shove in your face."
In November 2010, Cattle Decapitation returned home from headlining The California Blood Tour and decided to take the next year off and immediately began writing the follow up to their critically-acclaimed 2009 release The Harvest Floor.
The band has been holed up in the confines of their rehearsal studio in National City, California ever since and are preparing to unleash a new slab of human-dissecting carnage for a Spring 2012 release via Metal Blade Records. The band will be recording in January/February in Denver, Colorado at Flatline Audio with producer/engineer Dave Otero (Cephalic Carnage, Catheter, Trivium) and will play a small handful of shows on the way out to Denver showcasing their new material.
Artist Wes Benscoter is again on board to deliver more breathtaking GOREgeousness to the album cover as he has done on our past 4 releases. We will be announcing the album title, cover image and concept in the next few months.
Here's what guitarist Josh Elmore has to say about the new material: "As it comes down to the home stretch before recording, we have been focusing on getting the last two songs written as well as refining and tightening the tracks which are already completed. The overwhelming impression I get from this new batch of tunes is that they have benefitted greatly from a more streamlined approach to composition and song structure. A lot of these songs are very 'to-the-point' with just enough embellishment to keep them dynamic, whilst avoiding sinking into some bells-and-whistles mire. Lean and mean.
"There will be no forays in 8-string djentiness and none of us bought v-neck shirts or deck shoes to 'modernize' our sound and look, respectively. Expect some riffy, ripping blackened deathgrind with nods to our past work and tastes of what's to come. These songs are going to be a blast to play live and we are anxious to have these recorded and get on the road to play them for you."
The band's friend who simply goes by the tag "T-R3X" has provided a quick teaser video available below showing the band hard at work on new material! That video is available now on Cattle Decapitation's official YouTube channel here.
The band will be playing a ton of new material as well as some old gems at the following shows on their way out to the recording destination:
1/4 Phoenix, AZ @ The Clubhouse 1/5 Albuquerque, NM @ The Launchpad 1/6 Denver, CO @ The Marquis Theater
Bayonne, France band Gojira is currently at an undisclosed recording studio in New York City tracking a new full-length. Recording began on Thursday, November 3rd and is expected to continue through the remainder of this month. A spring 2012 release is expected, though we're not sure which record label will be handling the album's North American release.
As leaders of extreme music and one of the hardest working bands around, the legendary Napalm Death is currently putting the final touches on their 14th studio album (excluding the cover album Leaders Not Followers). This new piece of brutality is entitled Utilitarian, and it will hit stores on February 27th in Europe and February 28th in North America via the band's long time partner, Century Media Records. The cover artwork perfectly fits the album's theme and was created by the Danish artist Frode Sylthe, who is also responsible for The Haunted's amazing Revolver artwork.
Accomplished and influential drummer Chris Pennie, founding member of Dillinger Escape Plan and current member of progressive rock acts Coheed and Cambria, and Return To Earth, announced today that he is exiting Coheed and Cambria. Pennie and the band cited “creative differences” as the primary reasons for the split after the drummer's 4-year tenure with the band.
Pennie officially joined Coheed in 2007, replacing drummer Josh Eppard and touring extensively with the band internationally. He is featured on Coheed's most recent studio album, Year of the Black Rainbow.
Pennie will shift his full attention to his most recent projects, acclaimed progressive metal band Return to Earth (Metal Blade/Bald Freak) and Fight Mannequins. Return To Earth is currently working on their third album after releasing their Metal Blade debut, Automata, in 2010. Fight Mannequins, Pennie's music production company with Return To Earth guitarist Brett Aveni, recently completed their first documentary score and have produced two exciting artists whose albums will be released in 2012.
"I am very thankful for the times I shared the stage with the guys in Coheed and especially want to thank the amazing, supportive fans that I've met while on tour," said Pennie. "There are a lot of exciting projects on the horizon in addition to Return To Earth and Fight Mannequins that I feel require 100 percent of my commitment and attention. I feel that this is the right time to make that happen."
Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman has issued an update regarding his side project G.T.O. (aka Giraffe Tongue Orchestra), which also includes Brent Hinds (Mastodon), Eric Avery (ex-Jane's Addiction), and Thomas Pridgen (ex-The Mars Volta).

God that line up is sooooooooooooooooooooo good. Hinds/Weinman/ and Pridgen. MY FUCKING GAWD!!!!!!!!
Los Angeles, CA hardcore outfit Terror has apparently commenced work on their next full-length. The band has confirmed that they tentatively plan to enter the studio in May to begin tracking the effort, presumably slated for a fall 2012 release via Century Media Records.
