Columbus, OH's Attack Attack! has revealed the album title, cover art and release date for the band's long awaited new release on Rise Records. This Means War will be available everywhere on January 17, 2012.
Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo has revealed that the band is currently writing material for a new album. Details are sparse, with Lombardo offering only the following: "Slayer is writing a new record."
Earlier this year Slayer singer/bassist Tom Araya stated that the band would not begin wrting a new album until guitarist Jeff Hanneman's condition was sufficiently improved. As you may recall, Hanneman has been battling necrotizing fasciitis since early-2011. Since Hanneman is integral to Slayer's song-writing process (after all, Hanneman did write Slayer classics like "Raining Blood," "War Ensemble," "South of Heaven," and "Angel of Death"), one could infer that his condition has indeed improved significantly. Lombardo seems to have more or less confirmed this, saying "Jeff is still recovering and doing better."
Maryland progressive metal outfit Periphery enters the studio today to begin tracking a new full-length. Recording will take place with engineer Taylor Larson (I The Breather) and a spring release via Sumerian Records is expected.
Guitarist Jake Bowen comments: "We've got a ton of new songs ready that we can't wait for you guys to hear. We'll spend the winter in the studio with Taylor Larson (our good friend Nolly Getgood is co-producing with Misha Mansoor). We've decided to go a new direction with our music and we're calling this new genre DjentSlam! JUST KIDDING! Get stoked!"
