"Dick Grayson's fate post-"Forever Evil" has been revealed -- and while "Nightwing" is no more, "Grayson" is set to explore new territory as a secret agent.
As revealed Monday on USA Today, July will bring the release of DC Comics' "Grayson" #1, from the team of writers Tim Seeley & Tom King and artist Mikel Janín. The series will see Grayson -- presumed dead to the world following the events of "Forever Evil" -- take an undercover position at spy agency Spyral, a product of "Batman Incorporated." The career shift comes at the urging of Batman himself, who convinces the original Robin he needs to stay "dead."
"He's doing something that's going to cause pain to his friends and family, but he believes in the cause," King is quoted. "That tension between having to do something good but having the cost of it being pain to his family, it drives him a little crazy."
As pointed out by USA Today, King brings a level of verisimilitude to the series: He's a former CIA counter-terrorism officer.
"It's bliss to serve a higher cause and save people," King said. "The hard part of it is it's tough to go home and lie to your family and pretend to be a different person."
Seeley said in the article that the series will be "leaning into" Grayson's sex symbol status. The character's look will be redesigned, with no mask, but a blue-and-black outfit calling back to his pre-New 52 Nightwing days -- plus a "G" on his chest, said to be reminiscent of the Robin "R."
"Nightwing" #30, the final issue of that series, is slated for release on May 28. "Grayson" #1 is scheduled to follow on July 2. Earlier on Monday, blog "tako's nonsense" included "Grayson" #1 on a list of July releases from DC, along with another as-yet unrevealed new release titled "Robin Rises: Omega #1.""
A con shirt with Rocket Racoon and Groot on it. Complete season dvds for Code Geass, which are out of print. And a booth was selling N64 games, so I picked up Banjp Tooie.
After seeing the movie I went and picked up the new Amazing Spider Man #1. Pretty basic stuff but there's a cool lil twist they threw in that I'm interested in watching play out.
As far as free comics go, I got the GOTG (Venom wtf?) Rocket Racoon, Valiant Universe, Power Rangers, and GI Joes vs Transformers.
I also got the complete collection of The Immortal Iron Fist, Volume 1 of The Invincible Iron Man, as well as a couple back issues I needed. Shoulda paid 60 bucks but due to their fuckton of sales I paid 35 \m/
