Art was another thing I was thinking about, but I couldn't figure out something I wanted to pursue professionally through it. So, I keep art as a hobby.

exactly... you can always get a job, and create art on the side... which could potentially sell as well
can you get a job as a journalist, or in a magazine type thing for creative writing? cuz if so, you could always fall back onto like magazine article writing, or newspaper or somethin if you struggle to get a "creative writing" career out right away

also this.... plus add Columbia cred. (if you end up going there).
they may be jobs you hate at first before your actual writing career takes off.... but like my art teacher says "you gotta kiss a couple frogs before getting to your prince"

Yes, I know. Hah. But I don't have to figure it out right now. I'm probably going to end up with an editing job at some publishing company while trying to get the journalism to work out.
