my bad. I should have read this whole thread before asking. I read the first post and skipped to the end. Anyways, What was the point of the presentation? from your original post I was under the assumption that the two would be complementary. (paper to get the details down, and the presentation to present to the class what the paper was)
Yes, the paper and the presentation are indeed complementarity. The point was to highlight either an artist or musician that has ties to the things we were studying in class (Central European Art & Music in the mid 20th century). I talked to my prof and convinced him to let me show how folk music has evolved into what it is today. The presentation is an overview. The paper is more in depth. I'm going to just use my presentation as a launching point for the paper. I write papers best in one shot.

jesus. that sounds like a topic one could do a Master thesis on. And yet you have the unbridled audacity to attempt to condense that down into 5 measly pages without losing any focus or without any fear of not being able to successful present this history? Who are you?

senior thesis? wtf is that?
you know what is good about your topic... although I personally believe you have chosen a topic that will be difficult to contain to 5 pages, you have a topic that you should have a wealth of information on and it is likely that no one would be as knowledgeable on the topic to call you on any BS.
The only problem about my topic, is there aren't many (if any) scholarly writings on it.
And for my major, I have to write a senior thesis on a topic I choose. As of right now, looks like I'm going to be writing a novel under the guidance of an advisor.

Yeah, I'd believe that... which is why it would be a good master thesis topic. To do this subject justice, a lot of research should be done. (timelines, musical maps, music theory maybe). The only thing scholarly writings provide is a good way to plagiarize.
weird (re: senior thesis). Where do you go to college? how long until you finish it up?
I go to Rutgers New Brunswick for Comparative Literature. I'm a transfer student, so I'm behind. As of right now, my graduation date it set for May 2013. Which sucks, kind of. I graduate high school in June 2007 and Camden County College in May 2010 with an Associates in English.

wow. impressive. =D>
don't feel too bad about getting fucked by transfers, it happens to all transfers. I did running start in HS full time and so I graduated from HS with my AA. I then "transferred" to UW (Univ of Wash) and like nothing of my my AA transferred. I spent 2 years there, and then transferred to WSU for 2 more years before being awarded my BS in Computer Engineering. if you do that math, I basically spent 6 years for a 4 year degree :-))
I don't feel bad, it just kinda sucks. Oh well. I changed my major, so that's why I'm so behind. But whatever, I'm having fun. And very impressive yourself. I'm considering Grad school too. My one prof is like going crazy trying to convince me to go to Columbia University for a Masters in Creative Writing. I'm taking her again next semester too for Manuscript Writing.

ooohhh.... yes... go to Columbia if you have that opportunity! Seriously.
I've been out of school for a decade and last Nov I applied to the Masters of Electrical Engineering program at Rochester Institute of Technology. They have a GRE requirement for admissions and in my "letter of intent" I made it clear that I had no intention of taking this standardized test that is geared towards new grads. Anyways, I expected I'd be denied however they accepted. #-O Now I guess I am starting school again next fall
Not at all. Hah. But it's fun and hard as shit in regards to the other liberal arts fields.

Congrats! The only reason I'm skeptical about Columbia is because she wants me to go right there after graduation. She teaches there too and would pull strings for me. But I think I might want to travel a bit after graduation, maybe go to grad school abroad.

There is always time for traveling after Columbia. Is she going to pull strings to help you come up with financing that school? I could be wrong, but isnt Columbia just about one of the best Universities for your major?
This would be like me being offered a full ride to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
I have no clue if she can pull financial strings. I'm going to talk to her about it more in depth in the Fall when I have her again. She yes, Columbia is one of the best for CompLit. Not many universities have a grad school program for it. Rutgers has an amazing Comp Lit grad program, but I'm not sure if I want to stay in Jersey. As well as Princeton, Yale, Brown, NYU, Penn State. The one I'm leaning towards though is University of Florance. There are quite a few amazing ones abroad.

have you done an outline of the paper?
