Serj Tankian, Devin Townsend, Ihsahn (ex-Emperor) and Ray Holroyd (12 Ton Method) recently teamed up to record a song honoring former South African president Nelson Mandela, and now the lyric video for ‘We Are’ has been released (watch above).
The charity single is being released by the non-profit record label Revolution Harmony, which was founded by Holroyd. He started it in 2011, with all proceeds going to charities that restore harmony between people, animals and the environment.
Revolution Harmony posted the following about the song: “The lyrical theme in ‘We Are’ is based on the concept behind Revolution Harmony, which is essentially the belief that musical harmony has the power to inspire a revolution towards societal harmony. The single is dedicated to Nelson Mandela and the memory of Lucky Dube, and will be released worldwide on Mandela Day (18 July), with 100% of proceeds donated to Buskaid, a charity that provides free music lessons and instruments to children in the Soweto township.”
In addition to his musical endeavors, Tankian has also embarked on a painting project. He creates artwork based around his music, even embedding speakers and MP3 players within the artwork itself.
Nachtmystium mastermind Blake Judd announced that the band will soon enter the studio with engineer Chris Wisco to record their a new album. Here's the official word:
"Less than 10 days until the beginning of Nachtmystium's new album's recording session. Totally new approach in all ways this time around… new studio, new engineer, new players…
"This is going to be interesting to see how this goes. I'm producing the whole thing myself and have only hired a bass player and a drummer to do the album with the intentions of doing almost everything else myself and most likely writing the entire record. Locking ourselves in a studio an hour and a half outside of Chicago for four weeks (longest session we've ever had), coming home for 10 days once primary tracking is complete and then heading back up on August 5th – 14th to finish vocals, overdubs and mixing. Have a great team on board consisting of John Porada from Terminate on bass guitar and Sam Shroyer from Hate Meditation and Vitandus on drums.
"[The album is] being recorded at Belle City Sound by my old bud Chris Wisco (who recorded the vocals and some overdubs and mixed 'Worldfall' for us back in 2007) at his new studio in Racine, Wisconsin. [I'm] expecting a very different outcome in all ways with this record. [I'm] excited to be totally isolated from my day-to-day life for the first time while making an album since 'Eulogy IV' in 2004. Should be interesting…"
