After finishing infinite gotta agree with MC's original take that the open world doesn't add anything meaningful and is sort of a detriment to the game. The story is also sorta cringe but loads better than 4 and 5

Got the Platinum for Guardians Of The Galaxy last night. Game is fuckin amazing, mighta jus replaced Far Cry 6 on my 2021 list lmao.

This really is what Avengers could and should have been. I can’t believe both games are by Square Enix cause this shit is night and day. More linear, single player experiences like this jus WORK for superhero games, that game as a service bullshit was a complete waste. Only thing is if Avengers was done like this, I think being able to switch characters would be mandatory.

Speaking of, I originally didn’t really like the idea of only playing as Star-Lord and not being able to control the other 4, but the way it was done ends up feeling like you control the entire team anyways. All 4 have individual attacks you can command, as well as traversal actions outside of battle. Overall it works really well. Due to how the command system works tho, it really wouldn’t have been a problem to allow you to switch characters. For instance, you play as Groot instead but can still make Star-Lord do his same attacks you can do when you play as him. Goes without saying that co-op could have jus as easily been implemented, but it is what it is.

Overall the combat system was pretty dope, but it definitely does get a lil repetitive by the end. I think if they fine tune it and make it a lil more in-depth for a possible sequel, it would be golden. The thing is that all 5 Guardians have 4 different commands, but for the most part, the only ones really needed were 2/4 of each Guardian’s set, so you spam those halves, leaving the other halves pretty much unused. I think somehow making all 4 commands basically a necessity would solve this.

The combat system kinda reminded me of a junior version of the FF7 Remake combat system, not a surprise, coming from Square. But it’s that mix of real time attacks from your character, while inputting passive commands for your squad. There’s even elemental damage mixed in where certain enemies are specifically only damaged by ice, lightning, etc. It was a cool take on a superhero game, but I guess it also works because none of the Guardians are really too superpowered, especially the one you play as. Star-Lord is jus a mf wit some guns lmao.

Graphically this looked fantastic, especially the levels and landscapes, where some were straight up jaw-dropping. All facial models were great too. Was actually surprised at how good Rocket looked, considering fur/hair is something studios constantly struggle wit as far as graphics.

Lastly, I know a lotta people were bothered by the facial models because they weren’t MCU, but they never said this was sposed to be the MCU GOTG. They’re more based on the comic versions, so it didn’t bother me. The MCU costumes are available tho, so I kept those on the squad for the whole playthrough lol. But overall, the characteristics and personalities are 100% on point, especially Drax and Rocket, so after spending time wit the characters, you hardly notice a difference from the MCU versions, different faces aside. Game is fucking funny too and the story was actually pretty dope and had me invested, the writing was great overall. I did all the collectibles for the Platinum, and I love how they add actual meaningful conversations wit your squad on the ship. For instance, you learn the reason why Groot and Rocket are so close, which goes back to Groot’s home planet. All his people had “companion animals” which were basically slaves, and mistreated. He had always felt bad for the animals and wanted them to have better, which led to his protection of Rocket later down the line. That’s prolly straight out of the comics, but I never knew that since I never read em. So I really appreciated the small lil details like that. The extra conversations also add to the post credits ending. After the credits, there’s like postcards of each character that tell you how they’re doing now. Having those extra collectible conversations adds details to their postcards, which otherwise aren’t there if you skip them. I thought that was a dope lil detail.

I also gotta say how much I love that this jus went back to old school basics and fundamentals. As much as I do love open world type games, it feels like EVERYTHING is tryna squeeze in these open world/RPG elements and jus jam pack games wit all these extras and make em as long as possible. Not this game. This was old school and 100% about the single player CAMPAIGN experience. The only extras was grabbing the collectibles thru each level, but beyond that, there was no side missions, no open world, etc., nothing but pure single player story focus. How that was made up for is that each level is meaty, there were some I spent as long as 2 hours a piece on. It was shorter overall tho, got the Platinum in jus short of 24 hours. Which is a nice change of pace in an era where every game is as long as possible. I’ve said before that I think 20-30 hours is that sweet spot.

The Platinum was also really straight forward and other than taking a second to focus strictly on some of the combat trophies, it was a Platinum that you mainly get simply from playing and completing the game, as long as you grab all the collectibles along the way. Only had to replay half of a mission at the very end for one of the combat trophies, which was the last one I needed.

Overall, I don’t think this was QUITE as good as the 2 most recent Spider-Man games, and that really comes down strictly to the combat systems. Spider-Man’s is undeniably a lot more fun and fine tuned. But this is MILES better than Avengers, and up there as one of the best Marvel games I’ve played. Would love for this to get a sequel and get that chance to fine tune those few loose ends. 9/10

MCU Drax is completely different than comic book Drax. I was kinda hoping since this had nothing to do with the MCU, they'd steer away from the MCU changes. In the comics he's more of a "too angry to die" Kratos style badass, not a goofball.

I like the GOTG movies, especially the first one, but I dont like how they did Drax nor how they changed Star Lord's father.

Are there unlockable suits? Star Lord's 2010s suit is so badass.

Oh in that case I think it’s a mix of both. He’s definitely more serious than the MCU version, and has prolly the most serious storyline of the game, revolving around his dead daughter and wife, but there’s still the whole “Takes everything seriously, doesn’t understand metaphors and sarcasm” thing that leads to some funny ass dialogue.

And yea there’s a bunch of extra costumes, including more abstract shit like the Five Horsemen Of The Apocalypse “evil” variants. The first one you posted ain’t in the game, but the second one is.

Touhou Luna Nights is sooooo good. Love how fast/actiony it is for a Metroidvania plus it's short. It's leaving game pass on the 28th

Man it’s crazy, I used to barely be able to tell the difference between frames per second. I remember playing 60 FPS for the first time after being used to 30 FPS, and there was a difference, but I was like “THIS is what mfs obsess over?” I remember I actually switched it back to 30 FPS because I felt like 60 FPS moved unnaturally fast and it was throwin me off lol.

But ever since I copped the OLED last year and consistently play on 60 or even 120 FPS on shit like COD, I go back to 30 FPS and wonder how I ever did it lmao. I switched Horizon Forbidden West to fidelity mode last night jus to see the difference. Looked GREAT if I stayed still. I turned the camera one time and immediately hit the 😬 face lmao. It was like it was in slow motion. Switched that shit back right away lmao. Performance mode is a necessity at this point.

Yea 60fps is a must, minimum, for modern games.

I cant wait to build a PC, and get a 120 hz monitor too.

Jus had the most bogus game of Infinite ever lmao. Luckily I was on the winning end of it. Was playing Fiesta on that big ass map I forget the name of it, the one that really should be a Big Team Battle map instead and has all the vehicle spawns lol. So it was a sweaty even match the whole time and we were staying tied, and then around 30 kills in, a tank spawns, so we grab that one, then a second one spawns immediately after, grabbed that one as well. So we had 2 tanks running. 3 of em backed out immediately so the rest of the game was against bots and the one who actually stayed. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 That was the first time I ever seen that. I almost feel like that had to be a glitch cause that shouldn’t even be possible, shit is completely unfair lmfao.
