Nola, the mail carrier is a civil servant. The National Guard troops do more than "go to afghan. or iraq". They guard the homeland and such. Nobody said "two years of forced military service". I said two years of service. Volunteer at the Red Cross or homeless shelter, etc.
this is the exact point where the bill goes over people's head.... they're too thick-headed to understand how civilian military service would work. Most people wouldn't even get gun training.
And a good piece of trivia about the first draft: More people were happy about being drafted than not.
FUCK THE REST OF THE WORLD UP THEIR STUPID ASSES LETS TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN
JUST SAYIN
this already happened.... lead to Pearl Harbor.
it was post-WW1 isolationism; a capitalist nation will never go for it now.
Very true. If the USA didn't completely ignore the rest of the world after WW1 then Hitler and Mussolini would have been stopped as soon as they started invading countries back in 1935 and the Japanese wouldn't have attacked Pearl Harbor.
well... the "straw" that broke the Japanese camel's back (with some push from other leaders) was an oil embargo which had been placed into effect during WW2. Japan wanted it really bad apparently; because both you (i hope) and I know that the Japanese didn't truly believe they could hold anything resembling a line against the US.
Had it not been for the Isolationism in place... the US would have sold Japan the oil, no questions asks. But they got political about it (rightly so IMO) and denied an axis nation something that would have obviously benefited the "opposition" in the war. Technically, the US had no opposition in a war they weren't involved in.... but morally, nobody ever supported the nationalistic nations in WW2.
