C'mon tho there is two different types of music.. To me at least.. I'm not gonna jam the new subrosa in my car as I ride around.. There are albums that are good and are accessible and then there are albums that are good that take a little more time to fully understand.. Like I'd prolly have to listen to say Alcest ten times to "get it" where as say new aic shouldn't take that long
Out of curiosity though, what exactly do you mean by "stand the test of time". If you're talking about your personal tastes, that's one thing, but if you're complaining that no current metal bands are as big as Pantera was in the 90's, that's childish. If you care about how the general public will look at current metal bands 10 years from now, stop.
Nah...I mean like what will be on your grandkids's iPods...I'm certain bands like AiC, nirvana, black sabbath, pink Floyd, tool, Michael Jackson, eminen, tupac, biggie....these are all things that will probably stand the test of time....not much from this year will IMO stand the test of time like that...but that could also be a combination of kids laziness, the way music is given to the masses now a days and the media . But like I said it's really just a matter of opinion.

While I don't really care about that kind of stuff, I'd say it's too early judge that for a lot of artists. I'm sure a lot of current hip-hop or pop artists making it big right now will still be revered 20 years from now. As far as rock goes, a lot of current indie rock artists will probably become dadrock in 20 years. As far as metal goes, I think artists like Mastodon (I don't give a fuck if you don't like them, you have to admit that they're one of the biggest metal bands right now that aren't scenester bullshit), Machine Head, Gojira, and maybe even Ghost or Deafheaven (they were potential Grammy nominees, that speaks volumes), will be seen as metal greats 20 years from now. But it's just too early to judge.
