Here's a math riddle if anyone is interested. It proves all math wrong!
I've seen this a few times and it annoys me. It says assume x=y, and at the end concludes with 1=2. Because 1 =/= 2, the assumption of x=y is false, nothing more.
There is actually nothing wrong or incorrect with assuming that X=Y. When you say "assume X=Y" what you are really saying is "lets pretend I have two numbers and they are equal". What is wrong with me saying that? Nothing. Those two numbers could both be 2 or 5, or 5.2839304, or pi. It doesnt matter what their value is only that you choose two numbers that are equal.
Like what Jay and Wine said... The problem here is when you separate terms and you have (X-Y), X-Y would be equal to 5-5 (for example) which is equal to 0. And one of the rules of division is you can not divide by zero. When you look at it with variables, it is not obvious that X-Y =0 so a lot of times people will miss that and not understand why this worked out to 1=2.

Once you have separated the terms, and assuming that is a divide sign between the two fractions, then you can take the second fraction and switch the numerator with the demonstrator and change the divide to a multiply. Then cancel out the like terms

Let me know if you need more help. I purposely didnt give you exact numerical values cause I want you to learn how to do it. HW doesnt mean jack shit compared to your tests.

Here's the first part...
(x+5)(x+4) ----------- (3x+1)(3x-1)
Do you see how to do that? do that for the fraction. Then flip the second fraction numerator/denominator so you can go from divide to multiply. You can then just combine those two fractions, cross out matching terms (like (3x-1) will cancel out because you will have it in the numerator and denominator). Then multiply what you have left and bam... your answer will be A.

If I dont receive at least a B in my classes then I am kicked out of the school. You can pull one C and not be kicked out, but your next quarter needs an A to average that out.

The 9x is suposed to me on the second line.

12x(y^6)
= 15*(12x(y^6) )

9x*(2x^3)*y
