if you did write it correct... the second equation is a line and the first one is a parabola. Im pretty sure there will be two points of interection, however you should graph to make sure. They might not intersect at all.
If only my engineering classes were this easy.....lol.
if only my current class was this easy. I can do this stuff all day with a smile on my face lol
Yeah no kidding. I actually have to do this stuff when I do problems in my structures class. The problem is that's by far the easiest shit we have to do when it comes to calculus and math lol.

x over 2 + y over 4 = -1
x over 4 - y over 6 =3
3x+2y=-1
5x+6y=9
2x-3y=11
3y+5x=17
2x+y=5
4x-2y=14

x over 4 - y over 6 =3
----> 2x/4 + y/4 = -1
3x/12 - 2y/12 =3
-----> 2x + y = -4
3x - 2y = 36
------> 4x + 2y = -8
3x - 2y = 36
-----> 7x = 28 ------> x = 4 -----> 2(4) + y = -4 ----> y = -12
