I'm serious, I don't like Pantera or Damageplan. I can tolorate a few Pantera songs and like one Damageplan song. Both.sond pretty much the same for me...even though technically they're the same damn band just with a different bassist. Both are just, for lack of a better word, boring
youre really serious? did you read anything I just said? how can you even compare damageplan to pantera, it is a totally different band damageplan singer sucks hard. they arent even anywhere in the same ballfield... Damageplan was a thrown together side project just to give them somethig to do, they were really waiting for phil to get his shit togehter and make more pantera. if you heard damageplan and thats what you are basing your opinion on pantera on, you are way off. <_>

see by you making this statement I know you never really listened to Pantera, its obvious if you're serious about this.

my argument is once again proved, people who bash pantera never really listened to them.

    Godsmack isn't metal though <_>
    shane mentioned godsmack, not me..
Yeah...and you quoted your comments about godsmack <_>
lol george is all worked up into a frenzy
I'm not worked up, I just here people bash Pantera for no reason all the time and I'm trying to understand why. There's alot of bands out there that I don't really like, but I realize they arent bad and have done alot for the music indrusty , so I dont bash them. I said it before, I think most of the people bashing Pantera are just following others and never really heard them. I'm not mad at all.
    godsmack
i was responding to this <_>

cut the crap.... a good 40% of pantera's fans today wouldnt even be if Dime was still alive.

You obviously didn't get what I said. I am not basing my opinion on Pantera because of what I heard from Damage plan...even though to me they sound the same. And I have listened to Pantera...and they bored me. I downloaded Pantera a long time ago, listen to it a bit..was not impressed, deleted it. I listened to one Damageplan album, didn't like that either. I don't think Cemetary Gates is that bad by Pantera...but I usually change it after a while

was pantera big or not before dime died? i dont disagree that his death brought attention to pantera, they were just already big before then. they solde out arenas and headlined festivals... i think alot of the pantera hate is from people who just get in line and follow others saying they are overrated cause they never really heard them.

i guess this falls under opinions are opinions, but i still think you never really listened to pantera besides the few mainstream songs you might have heard on the radio/tv. theres alot more to them then that. and they are absolutely not boring as i explined earlier, and they have nothing to do with damageplan, DP was a shit band they threw together to keep themselves occupied, dime was saving his good shit for pantera. dawn please listen to the songs i posted, please, then talk to me...

  • NecrothulhuNecrothulhu Posts: 33,444 master of ceremonies
But how are they portraying themselves as metal? It's not in the lyrics, music, or their look

maybe by playing metal festivals, calling themselves a metal band, doing interviews for metal magizines and metal radio stations and being in the metal/heavy metal genre category :-bd

List is full of fail, even though I like at least half of the members on here.

Ironic that Laiho and Petrucci are 1 and 2. Maybe only to me, but ironic after their fight a few years back.

I'd put Petrucci over Laiho though.

    And probably Iommi up top.

They can call themselves a metal band all they want, still doesn't make it so. And metal magazines don't even have all that much metal in them anymore

Dimebag isn't the best guitar player ever, but he's not overrated. He deserves all the credit he gets. He has his own style and made it legendary, his style is original and Pantera rose to the top through the grunge scene. They kept it metal. I had the luxury of seeing him live and he was terrific. If you haven't seen him live, its hard for you to judge. He is a great guitar player.
he and Pantera would not be as famous as they are if he didn't pull an Abe Lincoln
even if this was a troll, you should be thrown out of the metal community. I would love to see what happens if you yelled this at the top of your lungs to any metal concert you would go too. I'd be throwing fists, and I dont think Id be alone.

Bullshit. Hoods is exactly right... Pantera was HUGE in the 90's. They were the biggest metal band in the 90's in the states period. Dime's death did nothing to increase their popularity among metalheads. Those into metal, already knew about Pantera... and those not into metal arent going to start liking them because their guitarist died. Anyone who cared about Dime's death, already knew them. Pantera was NOTHING like Nirvana.

Maybe his death allowed new metal fans, or young kids (like most around here) to discover them sooner then they would have... but Dime's death was not a reason for their popularity.
