No, theft and copyright infringement are two different things. In this case there is nothing of substance to take. The person doing the copyright infringement has not taking something quantifiable from the person who made the song. He still has everything that he has before the copyright infringement took place.
It is a little like calling a consensual sex between a 19 year old boy and a 17 year old girl rape. Statutory rape isnt the same thing as "the unlawful compelling of a woman through physical force or duress to have sexual intercourse."
copyright infringement is still morally wrong I agree with you on, but it is not "theft"
Wake, before you illegally downloaded the COB album did you own it? If not, then you took something that did not belong to you. That's stealing, just like we were taught from childhood. You can spin it however you have to so that you can live with it, it's still stealing. It wasn't given to you by the owner, the owner didn't give you permission, either expressed or implied, to posess it yet, so you obtained it by theft. Simple really. You ain't ever gonna make me change my core values. I know that taking something, anything, that does not belong to me is stealing. My mommy told me that was a no-no a long time ago.
no but you are. taking shit personal. if you ever make a CD, i will be sure to purchase it ok?
She nola as hell.
Not a possiblity on me ever making a CD. I have financed one and would be glad to sell you one of them. Very good music actually, not really heavy, more along the lines of KSE. Band's called Verdict. See if any of their shit is available for theft and let me know if it is.

Alec29 - didnt we agree to disagree? I have never been arguing about the morality of such an act, and I believe I actually agreed with you that it is morally wrong. I havent really been trying to change your mind. I've only been arguing about the very definition of the word. If you want to define a word differently then the english dictionary does, you are free to do so; but you have to understand that most english speakers are going to take the dictionaries definition as the meaning of that word. I admit that I committed copyright infringement and illegally copied someone elses work without their express written extent and that if I am caught for such act then a jury of my peers my find me guilty of copyright infringement and hold me liable for damages equal to 22,500 per song and ten years in prison. Happy? Guess what? I'm not guilty of theft
They routinely sell out shows. We have SOLD over 6000 units, which for a local band is pretty good. Roadrunner has approached them. Century Media has approached them. I'm not sure what your definition of "real world" is as you obviously don't live there.
Why would we want to GIVE away a viable product that sells itself?
MUSIC IS NOT A PRODUCT, MUSICIAN IS NOT A PROFESSION, IT IS AN ART FORM FOR THE PEOPLE, ILL BUY A SHIRT FROM THE BAND IF I WANT TO SUPPORT THEM BUT NOT THEIR MUSIC

tell them not to sign to those labels! their shit will be stolen instantly!

really their best bet is to just stay local and don't sign with any record company. I think I can safely say that if they avoid that then their music will not be pirated.

Congrats. I'm happy for you. I won't ever be stealing any music. I will buy it if it's something I like. If not, I won't. Really simple.
Oh yeah, junkies can get free needles at the clinic but that don't make shootin' dope any more legal now does it?
Make no mistake about it, it's a bidness.
