Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin has a torn ACL and MCL, coach Dan Bylsma said Saturday.
Malkin was injured Friday night against Buffalo. He had missed the previous five games with a left knee injury. Malkin won the Art Ross and Conn Smythe trophies in the 2008-09 season as the League's regular season scoring leader and playoff MVP, but has been slowed in each of the past two campaigns by injuries.
He has 15 goals and 37 points in 43 games this season for Pittsburgh. The Penguins have the second-most points in the Eastern Conference and sit one back of rival Philadelphia for the top spot.

Kovalev to Penguins? His detractors might say somebody should have woken up Alex Kovalev with a shot in the head a long time ago. Or what the Senators winger is doing now is auditioning for a job as Sidney Crosby's linemate before the trade deadline. Asked if he has ruled out in his mind any chance of returning to Ottawa, Kovalev, who turns 38 this month, provided an interesting answer. "It's not up to me," he said. "I just love to play hockey..."
I like the 1997 fight better because that's when the Wings got their payback for the previous year. That game was great too, a 6-5 OT win for the Wings....it gave me chills.
