The league, of course, is denying it. So it depends on who you want to believe.

Rob Zombie to produce Flyers film

The Philadelphia Flyers' legendary Broad Street Bullies apparently will be portrayed from the unique perspective of Rob Zombie.

The popular heavy metal musician and film director will produce a film about the Flyers' fabled championship teams entitled "Broad Street Bullies," according to a report on deadline.com.

    Zombie
Zombie also will direct and write the film, the website reported. He recently acquired the rights to the story about the 1970s Stanley Cup-winning teams and also received the full support of the Flyers organization, according to deadline.com.

"Each character involved is more outrageous than the next," Zombie told the website. "The backdrop of the turbulent year of 1974 is perfect for this 'stranger than fiction' sports tale."

The Broad Street Bullies -- also the subject of a 2010 HBO documentary -- ruled the ice with a ready-to-rumble style that made them loved in Philadelphia and loathed throughout the rest of the NHL.

The Flyers won their only two Stanley Cup titles in 1974 and 1975 with teams featuring Hall of Famers Bobby Clarke, Bill Barber, Bernie Parent and enforcer Dave Schultz.

"The great Rob Zombie making a drama feature film about the Broad Street Bullies is exciting and thrilling for all of us," Clarke, the Flyers' current senior vice president, told deadline.com. "I look forward to seeing it."

Known for his popular horror films such as "House of 1000 Corpses," "The Devil's Rejects" and a reimagining of "Halloween," Zombie will produce "Broad Street Bullies" with Andy Gould, Les Borsai and Jeremy Platt, according to the website.

Not that it matters much, but...

The votes are in and the fans have spoken. Claude Giroux has won the first ever EA Sports NHL 13 Cover Vote!

"It's a great honor. Obviously it's not something you think of," said Giroux shortly after the announcement. "It's all about the fans pretty much; the support of my family; my hometown and obviously the Flyers fans all over the world. I think I'm pretty lucky to actually win this."

Boston general manager Peter Chiarelli said Friday that goaltender Tim Thomas agreed weeks ago to waive his no-movement clause -- potentially allowing the Boston Bruins to save a major salary-cap hit next season.

Meeting with reporters in Pittsburgh prior to Friday night's NHL Draft, Chiarelli said Thomas -- who announced earlier this month that he plans to take the 2012-13 season off to be with his family -- had waived the clause, making a deal possible. The no-movement clause runs until July 1.

Thomas' cap hit for 2012-13 is $5 million, though his actual salary is only $3 million. The 38-year-old is entering the final season of a four-year contract he signed after winning the first of his two Vezina Trophies in 2008-09.

"At the very least he's being cooperative in that sense," said Chiarelli, who added that several teams have contacted him about acquiring Thomas — including some that might have a difficult time reaching the salary-cap floor. A team could add Thomas to its roster, suspend him and thus take the cap hit without actually spending any money. Because Thomas signed his contract after he turned 35, the cap hit applies regardless of whether Thomas actually plays.

"I've had a couple of teams, more than a couple," Chiarelli said when asked if teams have inquired about Thomas. "I've had a category of teams that are inquiring about acquiring him for the cap floor. And I've had a category of teams who inquired about, is he coming back? If you look at it, that would be a $5 million cap hit that a team doesn't have to pay. So yes, on that basis, I think there would be interest. The thing is, there's no rush right now to get [cap-compliant] yet. There's no urgency. But if there was more than one team competing, I'd have to look at it."

Chiarelli said he still hasn't gotten a 100-percent statement from Thomas that he will not play next season, but admitted that "It's probably 95 percent."

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has acquired center Jordan Staal from the Pittsburgh Penguins. In exchange for Staal, Carolina has traded center Brandon Sutter, defenseman Brian Dumoulin and its first-round pick (8th overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft to the Penguins.

“Jordan is an elite two-way player who possesses a rare combination of speed, size, scoring ability and defensive responsibility,” said Rutherford. “For his young age, he has a wealth of NHL experience, including winning the Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 2009. And he is obviously a natural fit for our team in joining our captain, his older brother Eric.

“We want to thank Brandon Sutter for his time in Carolina. He has been a very good player for our team, and we wish both Brandon and Brian the best as their careers continue.”
