Florida-based death metallers CANNIBAL CORPSE will release their new studio album, "Red Before Black", on November 3. The follow-up to 2014's "A Skeletal Domain" was recorded at Mana Recording Studios in Saint Petersburg, Florida with producer/engineer Erik Rutan (SOILENT GREEN, BELPHEGOR, HATE ETERNAL), who previously worked with CANNIBAL CORPSE on 2006's "Kill", 2009's "Evisceration Plague" and 2012's "Torture"

I bought it. Just wasnt really impressed with it. Its all just slow black metal. Wheres the folk vibes? The epic melodies? The heavy death metal breaks?
they haven't folk vibes since Metazoa. I get that might be your favorite, cuz it's a fucking amazing record, but they haven't reached that level of production since. they've been way stripped down and more metal ever since. plus this is a different line-up. I'd argue there's some really epic melodies on Migration and Sentinel. I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about with "death metal breaks" but every riff on this album is heavy or gnarly as shit. Give it some more spins dude, there's a lot to like about this. but if you want folk metal listen to a folk metal band.
I do, but this was just dull imo. Metazoa is still their best album. They always mixed different styles in a way that was unique and interesting. Like I said mixing prog, and folk, and death metal, and black metal. But the new album was just straight forward and self mastabatory. Long songs that didnt go anywhere, and lacked the zazz and charm of the older material. There wasnt a single melody that stood out to me like their older material.
I wouldnt say the album was bad, but I expected more from Cormorant.
idk bro I disagree. this album is definitely their most riff oriented, not so much melodies and prog/folk, so if Metazoa is peak Cormorant for you I get why this isn't as good. But to me it's a bunch of badass death metal and black metal riffs gelled together by heavy af doom and some beautiful post-rock stuff with Migration. Maybe it's cuz I get to experience this material live on a frequent basis, but this is just their most fun album yet. I have Diaspora on repeat.
Idk I thought it was pretty rad though I may not be the one to ask because I haven't listened to that much of their material. I thought it was killer though
This year has been kinda weak as a whole. Didnt really dig the new Pallbearer, Mastodon, or Perturbator that much either. The new Royal Thunder sucked imo. Even the new Alestorm and Wintersun albums are kind of by the numbers for me, though I enjoyed them.
