that said...have you done weddings before? You mentioned its how a lot of photographers make their money. If you havent, and photography is what you want to do in life, then maybe it would be a good chance for you to build your portfolio?

I've shot 4 weddings before, 2 of them were fairly big. After everything is done with, i generally make a solid grand per wedding. But there are people with more experience that make 2-4k.
