Maybe that's more of a function of me growing up in SF while Bonds was playing, but I haven't experienced anything like that before. When he broke the single season HR record, all small talk in the Bay revolved around the Giants. It was amazing.
Also, watching McGwire and Sosa duke it out to break Maris' record was amazing. I was only like 6 and while I love the sport for the pitching now, it's probably what got me excited about baseball.
Forget this whole "purity" shit. If you're going to commemorate the best players of all time, do it in the hall. If you think they were scumbags, fine, but so were half of the players pre-1950. Who cares. Baseball's past issues with racism, etc have been forgotten. So will this.

Totally not the same thing as doping up to get a physical advantage but ok
A lot of the players in the late 70's and all of the 80's took amphetimines as well. idk why morally I feel that isn't as bad. Maybe it's because I have done addy?
Its ta still not cool but I put steroids a notch higher on the list as far as performance enhancing.
I really hated the steroid era. Ive always been a big fan of great pitching. I'll take a 2-1 game with some guy knocking out 15 Ks any day of the week over some 15-12 slugfest that lasts 4 hours. Home runs are nice for dramatic flair, but for a while there they got so common and so many sacred records fell that it just turned into a blur and got boring. It didn't help that the entire time that shit was going on, the only Brave that got mixed up with it was John Rocker. To see those roided up teams beat them in the playoffs every year was sickening. I hated Barry Bonds, but even I respected his game before it became obvious he was juicing. You don't go from your career looking like you were backsliding then suddenly become superman at age 36. Same for Clemens. Those Yankee teams everyone sucked so much dick for were filled with dopers. It still irks me that some jackass didn't vote for Maddux for the hall even though he posted back to back sub-2.00 era seasons in the middle of all that. I'm glad things are back to normal. A ton of great 80s players got shafted by hall voters in the 90s because none of them had hit 50 home runs. Tim Raines and Dale Murphy specifically stick out. Alan Trammell, Don Mattingly, Dave Parker, Steve Garvey. I could go on. Took Jim Rice 15 years to finally get in. I would love to see all those guys in, along with Jack Morris and Lee Smith. Especially over some roider dipshit. It's funny how people defend roiders, but then will shit all over the Patriots in football
Im not sure how I feel about letting known users into the hall. Every power hitter or dominant pitcher is gonna be a suspect now because it was so common and still kinda is. The only guys you really know about are the ones that got caught or confessed. Im sure a ton of em will end up in the hall sooner or later.

Worse, honestly. The rose colored glasses around the Jackson era and players like Ty Cobb is irreconcilable with the attitude around steroid users. Physical advantages are always a point in time thing, anyway. Modern baseball players have a physical advantage over players from other eras due to advances in training, etc. Not that I appreciate steroid users for cheating, I don't. I just think that we have such recency bias with the steroid era that we overdo it. Baseball has had many, many worse things that we forget about.
Rumors keep swirling. Have even heard chris davis's name in the mix. Apparently if its up to illitch we are going to go after someone. If its up to avila we are going to sign someone like rayburn to platoon with goos..
Scott Boras is a genius. Davis would've shriveled on the market without the Orioles being convinced to bid against themselves. Who else would've given him anything close to that money?
He's still impressive in his ability to get money for his clients where no competition exists Scherzer last year and Fielder a few years back automatically come to mind. All signed towards the end of free agency where there was little competition and got more money than all deserved. I don't know how he does it
