I met Goldfinger when they played the venue I worked at. Very nice guys, but clearly were doing it for the money. They were typical buttrockers, playing AC/DC covers during sound check. That style was big when I worked there and a lot of those bands were like that. Pennywise were the worst. It was all a big joke to most of them and it came out in their music afaic. IMO that Cali style was rendered irrelevant after the wave of bands like Bad Religion and The Descendants. I've never heard Streetlight Manifesto or RX Bandits. They were always too attached to Warped tour culture for me to care. Seemed like a waste of time

RX Bandits kinda were a little earlier on, but they moved more into more experimental/progressive type of alt rock. Idk, i'm not entirely sure how to describe how they sound now, but it's not "ska" at all anymore. Streetlight Manifesto are the one ska band that does it right, imo.

Goldfinger's "Stomping Ground" and "The Hang-Ups" are both great albums. The rest of their stuff is shite imo with the exception of a couple of songs here and there.

I'll put it this way: When it comes to this genre, I'm the wrong person to ask at this point

Haven't heard of either. The only bands I fuck with from that genre is old Goldfinger, Less Than Jake and Sum 41 if you can even consider them ska.

Sum 41 are pop punk, albeit more tolerable than most in the the genre. Less Than Jake are always fun to see. I went to their hometown show last year and it was crazy.

they were cool. i wasn't expecting them to have like 4 vocalists. I understand spanish pretty well but I could barely make out what they were saying in between songs haha.
