It's also a really big toll in my wallet. First Sabbath was $80 and The Cure was $200 ($100 a piece but I bought my buddy his ticket for his birthday). Almost $300 for two shows is crazy.

most of the shows i go to are local. a show is a show, mark em up. and Chicago is like one of the biggest music markets in the US, there's plenty of underground stuff happening, you just gotta know where to look.
Will start doing that next year for sure then. And yeah sometimes I'll something for an underground show and ill be like "that looks awesome" before realizing its like a month old. Sometimes I just get caught up in work and whatnot that I don't keep close enough tabs on some stuff. But like I'm never going to miss the add or dates for like Korn or Slayer or something like that because of the mainstream metal appeal you know what I mean? That's why I go to way more Tixketmaster shows than anything else. Well obviously because I really enjoy everyone I go see but you know what I mean.
when people hear I got to 30+ shows a year they give me weird looks but they dont realize its not arena and big theater shows lol. 90% of them are small as underground ones.
I used to just go to clubs that I thought had cool bands and see stuff I've never heard of. There used to be a place in East Atlanta called The Echo Room. I saw the White Stripes play there when they were tiny, El-P, Mike Patton and Rahzel, Melt-Banana, etc. So in just hanging out there for new music, I ended up discovering people like ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Clinic, Saul Williams, Buck 50, Genghis Tron, etc. It was really small, so usually if you hung out by the merch, you could easily meet and get to drink and play pool with the groups. I did with members of Tha Alkaholiks and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion on separate occasions

this show as a lot of fun. I think Thundercat was my favorite set, his music is clean as fuck and he's so fucking raw at bass. His band was raw af too. Shabazz was cool as usual, and Fly Lo was a cool experience for my first like electronic show ever. Parliament Funkadelic was cool but they started off with some weird shit that was like rock/heavy which isn't bad but not what I was hoping for. It got better the set went on, but my expectations were a little high considering the band has been around for like 40 years and most of the people involved now aren't these as they were way back when.
I saw P-Funk once where Clinton brought some unknown r&b singer out and let her eat up 30 minutes of their 45 minute set. I saw them another time where they jammed out one of their lesser known songs for about 20 minutes of a 30 minute set. The last time I saw them was as a headliner at a big festival and they were bringing out these lame rappers to cover vocal parts for songs that had been sampled from P-Funk. I've never really got the full P-Funk Mothership experience like I've seen on old 70s footage
