I dont get it. I've listened to a ton of Deftones and all I hear is shitty nu metal riffing. Sure Chino has a good voice, but its piled on top of terrible music. I can understand if people like them for nostalgiac reasons but I just dont see whats so special :-/

nowadays... eh... its more of an evolved nu metal transformed into hard rock. they still have remnants of earlier work, but its come a hell of a long way.
I always considered Tool and Helmet and Rage Against the Machine and Faith No More and bands like that to be more peers to the Deftones. I don't really think of them as any sort of metal band

Korea was probably the most nu metal song on white pony but honestly that's one of my favorites lol

Exhibit C: opening riff, guitar throughout the verses, even the vocals a little bit
