I take equal rights to mean more than just getting married, but being treated as if anyone else would. Using faggot/gay/fag as a derogatory term implies that you think those that homosexuals are of a lower quality of person, because faggot/gay/fag are synonymous with homosexuality and you are using the terms in a derogatory way. If you view homosexuals are lower quality people, then you are not treating them as an equal... Thus I find it hypocritical to say you support equal rights for homosexuals, but want to continue using those terms in a derogatory way.
