I do things different at every show. Sometimes there is almost no worries for barrier, sometimes I have to rush to get there. Jay can vouch for Obituary, you could walk up to the stage halfway through the set lol. I usually get in line right about the time the doors open, get a shirt and put it in one of my pockets, and wait.
to get rail in most shows you wait at least a few hours in line.....whats not to understand?
Only been early to a show once and that was unintentional. Always get rail.
How do you do this exactly? Push forward and make your own space?
Just be patient. Holes open up, I step in. By the time the push really starts, people compress and more rail spots open. I'm almost always in there.
I really don't take breaks, either. So the concept of a merch break during a band is a bit foreign to me.
I'll try those tactics out next show I go to. Maybe not the Halloween one because I'm expecting that to be very low attendance since it's all local bands coming together for a show but I'll try it at the suffocation show
I've never had any major issue getting rail (stage, whatever) if I really wanted it. The only time I really struggled to stand my ground was for Mudvayne.
Walls of death are the ideal times to easily get rail.
Any pits can get you up there. Drunk people can also help if you aren't already at the rail. You seem like more of a jew and less of an asshole when you follow their wrecking ball of destruction.

but usually wall of death is usually saved for the end of the show

Sometimes. Either way, it gets you to the front, which raises your chances of getting sticks/picks/setlists.
well in my experiences you would have to be a dick to get the rail if you arent there from the beginning unless you sneak in there when bands are switching up or something. so im the only person here who doesnt try and get the rail every show?
