Just got back from Mayhem not too long ago. Some cool shit happened. Venue undersold like crazy. Last year, they sold 21,000 tickets and this year was only 8,000 so we all got upgraded from lawn to seats for free. Also, got a free 3 Day GA pass to Full Terror Assault from some random dude. Anyway, me and my group showed up just as TDWP was half way through the set. We walked around then got seated for Hellyeah.
Hellyeah -They were decent live. Nothing amazing, but they weren't bad. I enjoyed it and they had alot of energy. They pretty much only played new shit, which I didn't mind because the new album was the best one they've put out. Was really cool to see Chad and Vinny on stage. That being said, I'd rather have Mudvayne.
Set: Soul Killer Sangre por Sangre (Blood for Blood) Demons in the Dirt War in Me Cradle of Bones (Cross to Bier) Moth You Wouldn't Know
King Diamond -I'm not a huge KD fan, but I do like them. They shattered my expectations. They fucking blew me away. My favorite performance of the night ( @BASED ) Great set, great energy and my god can KD sing. They had like this old fucking castle staircase coming down and the pyro was wicked. Loved every second. Kinda almost wish they head lined because it felt like an ender.
Set: The Candle Sleepless Nights Eye of the Witch Welcome Home Tea/Digging Graves/A Visit from the Dead Come to the Sabbath The Family Ghost The 7th Day of July 1777 Black Horsemen
Slayer -My 4th time seeing them and they still put on one hell of a show. Bostaph and Holt are great performers and dammit they do well to fit the Slayer mold. They played all three of the new tunes and they were much better to me live then when I listened to them upon release. Always throws me off how caring and polite Tom is. He saw a guy fall in the pit and paused the show for like 5 mins to make sure he was okay lol Nothing new stage set up wise but there was some damn cool surprises in the set. All in all, was a fucking blast. Always a good time at a Slayer performance.
Set: Repentless Hate Worldwide Jihad ( \m/ \m/ ) first time seeing it live. Epic) Disciple God Send Death ( \m/ ) Surprised me. Was awesome War Ensemble When the Stillness Comes Implode Mandatory Suicide ( \m/ ) Chemical Warfare Ghosts of War Dead Skin Mask Hell Awaits South of Heaven Raining Blood Angel of Death
All in all, decent Mayhem. Not as fun as past years. Really wish they had some more new blood because KD was phenomenal. Seeing how bad the turnout was pretty much convinced me that Mayhem is on its last legs. It was fun and cheap tho and its always cool to see Slayer again. Also, so many many nice boobies. So many. Missed like 3 Hellyeah songs because this chick with a tight Slayer shirt and enormous breastises kept bouncing back and forth. Worth it.

Not necessarily. Get something like Disturbed/Volbeat/Lamb of God on main stage next year and they'll sell just fine. All the regular suspects just had something else going on this year so they were stuck. That being said it's probably not lasting much longer than another year or two barring a miracle headliner (System, Rammstein, Maiden, etc.).

Disturbed is prob going to head line next year. Like 99% sure. They booked Slipknot right away when they started touring again and it made $$$.
