Psychostick - Hell yeah! Psychostick was another band I was looking forward to. As expected, they performed great, and they were hilarious. Who could forget such classics as Beer, Because Boobs, and Two Ton Paperweight? There really isn't that much to say here, but these guys are funny, and they definitely know how to put on a good show. I even caught some of their acoustic set later in the day, but for their main set, I give them an 8.5/10. Why? Because BOOBS!
Smile Empty Soul - I'm not sure exactly when I saw these guys, so I'll just write it now. I didn't actually get to watch them play, because we were sitting on the hill and the sound booth was blocking my view of the stage. However, the audio sounded great. All of the instruments were perfectly balanced, and I did sing along with their singles. Maybe next time I'll actually get to see it. I can't really give them a proper review, but oh well. 6/10
Otherwise - These guys just recently got signed to Century Media Records, but for those who don't know, they are the first unsigned band in history to have a number one single on satellite radio. You may have heard it, it's called Soldiers. Anyway, I dig their sound, and their performance was great. I don't know much else besides Soldiers, but the rest of their songs sounded pretty decent, and they really got the crowd going. It'll be interesting to see how the musical career of these guys progresses. 7/10
My Darkest Days - I don't care what anybody says, I think that these guys rock. Some would call them a "guilty pleasure" band, but why should I feel guilty about it? Anyway, quite a crowd had built up for their set, and I don't think a single person was disappointed. Incidentally, it was the birthday of keyboardist Reid Henry, so that was cool. I might be forgetting a few, but they played Sick and Twisted Affair, Stutter, Casual Sex, Move Your Body, and Porn Star Dancing. Those are the ones I remember for sure. Right before Casual Sex, singer Matt Walst threw out a whole bunch of MDD-brand condoms. I didn't catch one, but I wondered if they did the same thing Slayer did, where they just but a Durex-brand condom in a piece of cardboard with the Slayer logo on it. Either way, I had a blast watching these guys. It was actually my second time seeing them, and during Porn Star Dancing, they brought a whole bunch of groupie looking chicks from the crowd onstage to dance with them. One of them flashed the crowd, and I turned around to high five some guy when that happened. But when I turned around, she was gone. Maybe she got jumped by security for indecent exposure. Either way, love them or hate them, there is no denying that they are fun live. Only complaint: do a better sound check next time. There were some sketchy patches where I couldn't quite hear Matt over the music. 8.5/10
The Veer Union - Not much to say here. I have heard a few of their singles, so I thought I'd check them out. They were good. Wasn't a bad performance at all. They sold merchandise after the show for donation prices, so Megan and Bret got a shirt and CD for cheap! I had fun watching these guys. They are fun live too. 7/10
Blue Felix - Oh, FUCK yes. Kyle and I were pumped as shit to see the almighty Blue Felix, especially after we had our asses handed to us when we saw them play at the Chesaning Rockfest in July. And, as expected, they did NOT disappoint in the slightest. Toxsick Tripp and the rest of the boys in Blue completely tore up the Northwest Tire Stage. I was a little worried because they had gone on later than when they were supposed to, so it kind of overlapped with Clutch, but it wasn't a big deal. They played a lot of my favorites, like Sky High, Uncle Scam, and of course, Middle Finger Up. Toxsick Tripp actually got off the stage for a minute and moshed with us in the circle pit! Kyle and I threw down with him while screaming the lyrics as loud as possible. If you EVER have the chance to catch Blue Felix, make absolute sure you do. They will blow you away, then put you back together, and then blow you away again. Check out my Showboat review for the first time I saw these guys. 10/10
Clutch - Right around now, my phone died, so I didn't get any good pictures. Clutch was the final band of the day that I watched, as well as the closeout band for the whole festival. As soon as Blue Felix got done playing, we hightailed it back to the main stage. Brando texted me and told me he was getting his ass kicked in the mosh pit by a bunch of 40 year old guys, and fights were breaking out everywhere, but that didn't quite cover it. Upon arriving, we saw that the ground finally gave way into a giant fucking mud pit. People were slamming into each other all over the place, sure, and everyone was lighting their pieces, but the thing that really alerted me to the full-blown chaos was that people were mud wrestling in the pit. Dirtfest 2012 just became Mudfest 2012. We all decided to jump in, of course. We all wrestled each other, and after I got done wrestling Megan, some guy held my arm up like I was the champion of the ring! Then, we all split off to wrestle different people. Megan took down some big dude, while I scrapped with some chick wearing just a muddy bra and shorts. As for Clutch themselves, they sounded AWESOME. The crowd was going absolutely nuts for them, and everything about their set was perfect! I half danced, half moshed when they played Electric Worry, and their entire set was the perfect soundtrack to the madness around us. I want to see these guys again so badly, and I will if I am given the chance! Clutch also gets a 10/10!
Overall, Dirtfest was a slam-bangin' good time, and I will definitely be going again next year! Hopefully the lineup is a bit more like the 2009 lineup, but either way, I know I'll have fun. Bring back Blue Felix and Necrophagist, and I'll be sold immediately.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - August 15th, 2012 -- Oakland, CA
I got into the venue near the end of the opener's set. The opener was a Swedish electronic rock band called Little Dragon. They didn't sound bad, and I wouldn't have minded seeing their full set, but whatever whatever.
After about 30 minutes of waiting, the lights in the arena dimmed down and Chad Smith came out and started playing the drum part to Monarchy of Roses. Then Josh and Flea came out and started playing the song for a lil' then Anthony came out and started singing the song. It was weird at first, because people didn't immediately stand up for the band. I've never seen that happen at a show where it was all seats. People stud up during the next song, Dani California, and while most remained standing for the rest of the set, quite a few people sat down and only stood for the really popular songs, which I thought was lame, but it didn't deter from the band's set any. The band sounded really great. Unfortunately the mix at the venue wasn't the best so there were times some songs just sounded kind of empty. Not really the band's fault though. The Chili Peppers were super energetic as usual and the light show was pretty cool and varied through out the set. The banter in-between songs was almost always delivered by Flea and it was always humorous. The set-list was pretty solid covering material from all the albums post-Uplift Mofo, since they seem to ignore their first three albums. All the band members sounded fine, and they had a percussionist and a keyboard player playing through out most the set and they sounded good too. Something else pretty cool was that there was a lot of jamming/improv through out the show. It was really cool to see these guys again because RHCP was my first concert, so it was really nice to revisit them even though I don't listen to them all that often. They band was super solid, they played a great set the showcased most of their career and they brought out a couple deep cuts from Blood Sugar Sex Magik, which was totally sweet. Overall, great concert.

I was pretty excited for this show because it was Avery rare occasion that I have never seen any of the bands on the tour prior. Show did not disappoint. Fuck the haters leave my childhood alone. We were center stage straight back right by the sound board so we had perfect sound.
Mutemath Never listened to them before. We walked in and got our seats right when they came on. At first I was kind of bored with them but as it went on I enjoyed it. I thought they drummer was really good. Courtney loved them. They ended up being very entertaining for their half hour set.

Incubus The reason I got to come is this band. I had been wanting to see them for the longest time. Went to rock on the range where they headlined Saturday, however Courtney was not feeling good so we left before they came on. She ended up buying me tickets to this as a birthday present. And to make up for leaving early. They are awesome live and Brandon's voice is amazing live. Only negative I had about it was three songs I was hoping for didn't get played. Wish you were here, a certain shade of green, talk shows on mute. Other than that I couldn't ask for more. I would like to see them on their own thing once though where they can use the entire stage.

Linkin park I have seen hundreds of bands in my life and I can honestly say they were probably the most spot on band I have seen. They sounded perfect. I'm not taking anything away from other bands or saying linkin park is better than them im just saying compared to their CDs and my expectations they sounded perfect. I loved that the set was very old stuff heavy. All but one song I wanted and expected was played. Crawling wasn't in the set unless they played it after we left but I doubt it we left during bleed it out, I was beyond excited when they played paper cut and they had some awesome pyro. I will definitely see then again. I'd live to see them on a big festival show. Courtney said it was one of her favorites. Crowd was very loud and was singing the entire way through. Swallow your pride and go see them you may enjoy it.
