i was just looking for the most direct route to the science building and rockoff hall which there isnt one and that parking place ima have to keep my car
Okay, from Rockoff to Busch, you'd either take the EE to the SAC and transfer to the A or H, or the more efficient way would be to walk from Rockoff to Scott Hall and hop on an A or H.
Well, then you won't hate it too much. Like, my first class tomorrow is at 9:50. I'm getting up at 8 to get ready, speed eat at the dining hall and catch and EE or F to Scott Hall.
Lupe Fiasco - Generation L.A.S.E.R.S. Tour - NIU Convocation Center - DeKalb, Illinois - October 4th, 2011.
Aight, one thing about this show right off the bat, it was a seated show. Which kinda took away from the experience. First show that was seats only. Amazing show regardless, but still. Anyways, grabbed a L.A.S.E.R.S. shirt, and went to the stage.
The Cool Kids: Meh. Cookie cutter beats, and they did nothing to hype up the crowd. Just sat down and waited for their set to be over. 5/10
Lupe Fiasco: Holy shit. All I could say the minute I saw his stage presentation:
On top of this, he had a live band, something I didn't expect at all, and the first time I've seen it at a Hip Hop show. He had a Drummer, Guitarist, Keyboard Player, Violinist, and 2 back-up Singers that sang all of his hooks and also doubled as Dancers. Something that was immediately apparent was how he truly is into Punk/Metal. He also has a Punk side project, and has always said that he doesn't like most Hip Hop, but did it because he was good at it and liked how he did it. But why I say this, is he straight up reminded me of Bruce Dickinson when I saw Iron Maiden. Running around constantly, high voltage energy, and straight up headbanging like a motherfucker, and constantly jumping off of shit and doing flips and shit like that. Also, his Drummer kept implicating Metal style Drumming into his songs. Did fast ass Double Bass during certain parts, and did it perfectly to compliment the beat. Another thing I loved is how his band changed all of the original instrumentals compared to the recorded versions of his songs. Not majorly, but they added little variations and played some parts differently, and it really added to the Musical part of the show. For instance, when they played I Don't Wanna Care Right Now, the main part of the instrumental that was originally a synth in the original song, was played with Guitar, and made to sound like more of a Rock song. Also, in what was the highlight of the night for me, after I Don't Wanna Care right now, he let his band jam out and play a Techno-ish Rock-ish sounding song, and it ended with his Violinist playing a Violin solo, and he shredded the fuck out of that shit. His Guitarist also played a dope ass Guitar solo at the end of State Run Radio, as well as the end of Beautiful Lasers, and shredded like a motherfucker. And before All Black Everything, they played a orchestra style little symphony to lead into it, which sounded beautiful, and was just amazing. Best songs of the night were Go Go Gadget Flow, Beautiful Lasers, and Hip Hop Saved My Life. Go Go Gadget Flow, I fucking lost it. I went absolutely apeshit when he got to the hook, and just screamed my head off. Beautiful Lasers was probably the most emotional moment I've ever had at a concert. I didn't cry or anything, but that song is just exactly where I am in life right now, and I was screaming every last word, and I don't know, I feel like I just...connected with Lupe at that very moment, like he was performing it directly to me. Made me feel a lot better and pick my head up, 'cause I've felt like absolute shit lately. Same thing happened with Hip Hop Saved My Life. He did what I described earlier and changed the original instrumental, it originally starts off with Piano, but tonight, his Guitarist started it off on an acoustic setting, and those opening notes gave me chills throughout my entire body. It was larger than fucking life. And I once again screamed every word, which is all about living out your dream and working hard to make it in Hip Hop, and at that very moment, it completely reinforced why I HAVE to be in his position one day, to be up on that stage, performing for thousands of fans. How that's my life. And how I have no fucking life if I don't live that one. It was just a huge experience for me and got me really emotional. Another amazing moment of the night, was right before Never Forget You, which is dedicated either to his Dad, or Grandma, or both, not sure, who both passed away, and he asked the crowd to give a moment of silence before he played it. And I don't know what it was about it, but an entire crowd of thousands of people just being dead silent and showing him respect like that, was just amazing to me, and gave me chills. And of course, The Show Goes On was absolutely mental, as expected. The whole place fucking erupted, and so did I. It was his last song, and everyone was just jumping, screaming their heads off, etc. Surprised I didn't blow my voice out. Another extremely inspiring song for me, that was 10x better live and made me feel on top of the world. Something I forgot to mention was the opening song, which was Words I Never Said, and he just exploded on the stage with that shit, and was the perfect way to start off the set and get the crowd hyped up. Another song that I screamed my lungs out for. Whole set was fucking amazing though, but those were the main highlights of the night. He also got political at the end and talked about Occupy Wall Street lol. And mentioned about giving donations, didn't hear for what though. Only one complaint, which isn't even really a complaint, because I love the album, but he played every song off of L.A.S.E.R.S. except for Letting Go. Which was kinda disappointing, because I wanted to hear some more songs off of The Cool and Food And Liquor. In conclusion, amazing fucking show. In the top 3 that I've seen this year. 11/10
I actually got a setlist this time, because I started a note in my phone and added the songs as he played them.
