Meet Palms, a newly formed Los Angeles based quartet featuring three former members of Isis with Deftones' vocalist Chino Moreno.
"Clifford, Jeff and I started Palms a little over a year ago out of a desire to continue making music together after Isis ended," explained Harris. "Chino joined shortly after and our sound took shape from there. We've worked really hard on this first release and are excited for people to hear it. It's nice to be back behind the drum kit, and with this line up."
"Being a huge Isis fan I've always dug the moods these dudes convey with their sound," added Moreno. "I am excited to combine my sense of creativity with theirs, and to have fun doing so."
Palms' debut album will be issued by Isis' former label, Ipecac Recordings, and is slated for a 2012 release with a release date to be announced soon. The album was recorded and mixed by Harris, and produced by Palms.
Palms is Jeff Caxide (bass/keyboards), Aaron Harris (drums), Clifford Meyer (guitar/keyboards) and Chino Moreno (vocals).

We are sad to announce that our long time drummer, Jack Blackburn, has left the band to pursue other interests. However, not all is lost. In fact... it's about to get even better. Note posting soon.
We have some news to share with you all. To some, it may be bad news; to others, it may be good. We suppose it just depends on how you look at things. Anyhow, our long-time drummer and friend, Jack Blackburn, has decided to leave the 'Fold to pursue other interests. Recently, Jack received an offer from another band that he could not refuse, and while it saddens us to see him go, we definitely wish him well in all his endeavors.
Jack "Blastburn" Blackburn stepped up to the drum spot in Enfold Darkness in early 2007. His playing helped us bring our music to heights that we had never reached before. He recorded drums for our debut album, Our Cursed Rapture, later that year (in the summer of 2007), and almost a year later (in 2008), due to the work done by Jack and the members of Enfold Darkness at that time, we managed to land a contract with Sumerian Records. Since then, Jack has toured the U.S. and Canada extensively with us, and his playing was also featured on our most recent "release", the "Lairs of the Ascended Masters" pre-production demo.
Our founder and leader, Matt Brown, had this to say on the subject: "Jack's aggressive black metal/technical death metal drumming mastery, characterized by fast double bass, blast beats of all kinds, and insanely quick tom sweeps mixed in with syncopated cymbal hits complimented our sound and helped make it what it is today. I will always be very thankful that he came along when he did and for all the hard work that he put in during our formative years."
While it was a sad day when we got the news only a few short weeks ago, the world keeps turning and the blast beats keep a' blastin'. While Jack was an important part of our world, we are not done with our mission, and him leaving will NOT stop us from carrying out our agenda. With that being said, we are excited to welcome BACK our former drummer and brother of Matt, Josh Brown into the 'Fold. Josh has come a long way since he drummed for us in 2006, and we are more than confident that he will be able to pull off our material with ease. However, it will be a few months before you will start hearing Josh's thunder live.
Due to the fact that Jack decided to leave us only a month before our "Shred Till You're Dead" Tour and the recording of our second studio album, things have been rather hectic for us. Jack's replacement, Josh, will be busy up until late July/August, and won't be able to go on tour or record with us until after that time period. It is for that reason that we are hiring certain BADASSES to tour/record with us for our upcoming new album.
*Whew!* With all that out of the way... I am pleased to announce the following information: 1) Touring with us on the "Shred Till You're Dead" Tour to fill the drum spot will be none other than Chason Westmoreland of BURNING THE MASSES. And lastly... 2) Ken Bedene of ABORTED will be (s)laying down the drums on our soon-to-be tracked sophomore release.
Do not dispair! We are only getting started. Jack leaving the band was a blow initially, but we have regrouped with even more strength... enough to TAKE ON THE WORLD.
IRON MAIDEN guitarist Adrian Smith has told VH1 Classic's "That Metal Show" that the band might approach songwriting differently for its next album and move away from composing long, progressive-rock-style tracks which have characterized some of MAIDEN's most recent efforts.
MAIDEN's 15th studio CD, 2010's "The Final Frontier", featured 10 tracks that had an average running time of seven minutes and 40 seconds, with the shortest song, "The Alchemist", clocking in at four minutes and 29 seconds, and the longest, "When The Wild Wind Blows", lasting ten minutes and 59 seconds.
Smith tells "That Metal Show": "On the last couple of albums Steve [Harris, bass], Bruce [Dickinson, vocals] and me have written together, which is a new thing. Steve used to bringing three, four, five completed songs. But now he's doing more arranging, production, overseeing. We sit down and write, and that's reflected in the slightly different stuff."
He adds, "We've been writing longer for some reason. Maybe next time we'll do some shorter stuff — but it's difficult to look into thefuture toofar."
The guitarist also expressed hisadmiration forthelikesof Jimi Hendrix, FREE and THIN LIZZY and the way they approached composing new music. "They did some great singles — put things into three minutes, which is a difficult thing to do, but it can be done."
Adrian is quick to point out, however, that IRON MAIDEN will continue to do things its own way, as has been the case throughout its 30-plus-year recording history. "It's just the band," he says. "There's no outside influences. There's never been a record company in the studio with us, so we're lucky — but we kind of worked for that."
IRON MAIDEN will return the road this summer with a series of arena, amphitheatre and festival shows in the USA and Canada, opening in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 21 and finishing in Houston, Texas on August 18, to be followed by further dates around the world in 2013. The "Maiden England World Tour" will closely mirror, in terms of production and content, the original 1988 concert video of the same name, shot on the "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son Tour".
Says Smith : "Probably two-thirds of the set is going to be [revisiting the setlist from the 1988 tour]. It's good to rediscover [those old tracks]. I like to play them slightly differently, but people know them so well you can't deviate too much. If we remember the songs, it'll be alright."
