I agree with your comments on "its only love" and "yesterday".... However what I love about just seen a face is the word play in it. It is almost like a tongue twister, and I love how beautifully they strung it together.

The other two you mentioned are fantastic, but more typical of what the Beatles do.... that is why I was trying to single out 'just seen a face'. there isnt another Beatles song like it.

wake what are some of ur favs off of white album??
idk... I only started really listening to White yesterday. White was the first Beatles album I listened to like 3-4 years ago when I got into the Beatles... I hated it on first listen and never came back. I only decided to give White another listen because I love the other heavy hitters so much. My perspective changed....

like I said, one real white standout to me was Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da? I'll be listening to it a lot more over the next month and then have a better idea what songs I really like from it

one interesting thing about the Beatles. My mom was forbidden by my grandparents to listen to that horrible rock music. My mother snuck out (she was 16) and saw the Beatles at the Boston Garden in the mid 60's (1967/68?). when my grandparents baby sat me and my brothers, they used to say "don't be like your mother and do what you are told". they never forgot. I envy my mom for going

now this is what music used to be, its so sad seeing shit like what erik posts now its really a shame we have no artists of this caliber anymore...i mean the metal community has some really talented people and i think is doing just fine but actual Rock n roll legends might finally be something in the past...

I think I disagree with these comments. If you actually step back and dissect The Beatles music, the song structure and lyrical content are not all that complicated. Additionally they aren't some pattern that couldnt be copied and repeated. I am sure there are many bands making similar music, however it will never be the same because half The Beatles legacy is their popularity.

Not that I am comparing this band I am going to mention to The Beatles, but have you listened to Mumford and Sons? I mention them because they are a decent english band that is closer to The Beatles then most bands mentioned around here. (I understand The Beatles is Rock and Mumford is Folk Rock...). Anyways, if you havent listened to these dudes, then download their first and only album. It's dope \m/ (NO WHERE NEAR THE BEATLES - but something you might dig).

I disagree too. I think Devin Townsend is doing some completely original and absolutely amazing stuff with music. I mean, the songs are so put together so well as far as all sorts of cool chords integrated with different instruments playing melody whenever. And the overdubbed harmonies I feel are on par with the Beatles, if not better. Take Canada for example:

Skip to four minutes and listen from their. That is fucking beautiful counterpoint. And then the chorus comes in again with all sorts of tone cluster vocal chords as well as layers of instruments out the ass creating that absolutely lush engulfing sound. A majority of his music has this effect. Terria is full of sick as fuck guitar parts combined with those harmonies as well as all sorts of different instruments, only put in when their timbre will enhance the song. Like the piano parts in the same song above. Or the organ that comes in on Earth Day after he says "I saw god" and it goes into the groovy ass triplet riff. This isn't just Terria though, it's pretty much all his albums (though some are better than others). Even (especially) his recent stuff as DTP. Addicted was incredible, and Ghost is just so good. And even though these albums have completely different styles, they all are immediately recognizable as Devy. This is also because of that fucking awesome production on all the albums. He always has the coolest guitar tone, everything works so well dynamically, and the tone is always so damn satisfying. Listen to this song from Ghost:

The simple guitar part provides the beat of the song while the flute does its thang, both of them resonating like some kind of wind on the ocean. And then- oh shit- those vocals creep right the fuck in and, you guessed it, vocal harmonies abound, with arpeggiating synths sometimes rising into hearing range, and that very brief glockenspiel/bell thing that comes in so clearly during what seems to be a chorus. The overall orchestration of all those extra instruments is great, and the production is second to none. Except maybe George Martin of the Beatles, who is responsible for pretty much any instrument you hear that isn't guitar and bass. Even piano is usually him. The Beatles would not be anywhere near as good if they didn't have all those crazy layers of different trumpets and strings and all those cool noises, so y'all best give George Martin as much credit as the rest of the Beatles.

But back on topic, I definitely think Devin Townsend could be considered on the same level as classic artists from back in the day, at least to me. I kind of went on a tangen at the end about George Martin, but I was just trying to say the Beatles would not be as good without him as producer. I love the Beatles though, they were all great songwriters in their own respect, and although I would not call any of them genius, they can be considered the greatest band of all time.

Also, George is my fav, I like his songs on each album the best most of the time. Except for Abbey Road, where John Lennon really shows what a musical badass he is with Sun King and Because.

The Cirque Du Soleil show "Love" in Vegas is meant to be very impressive
I've seen "O" at the Bellagio but that's not the Beatles music

Ive never been able to get into the Beatles. Idk why. I just cant do it. Recently ive been kind of going back and discovering/re-listening to older artists. A lot of Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash (I understand they dont sound like the Beatles or are from the same time period), but I tried listening to The Beatles and I just cant do it.

The Beatles are the reason music has progressed. Almost every great band has listed the Beatles as their influence.
