COQUILLE, Ore., Oct. 2 (UPI) -- A 70-year-old farmer in Oregon was eaten by 700-pound pigs, but how he died is a mystery, authorities said.
Terry V. Garner went to feed his pigs Wednesday. When he failed to return, a family member went looking for him and found his dentures on the ground of the hog enclosure, NBC News reported Monday.
The pigs had left behind few body parts, the report said.
The Coos County Sheriff's Office is trying to determine how Garner "ended up in a position where the hogs were able to consume him."
"There are several scenarios being investigated, including that Mr. Garner had a health event, such as a heart attack, which then put him in a position where the hogs could consume him," the Sherriff's Office said in a statement. "Another scenario being investigated is that given the age and health of Mr. Garner, that one or more of the hogs knocked Mr. Garner to the ground, whereupon that hogs killed and consumed him."
At least one pig had been aggressive toward Garner in the past, the statement said.
A pathologist who examined the remains was unable to determine a cause of death.

Man dies after live roach-eating contest in Fla. By SUZETTE LABOY Associated Press The Associated Press Tuesday, October 9, 2012 1:28 AM EDT
MIAMI (AP) — The winner of a roach-eating contest in South Florida died shortly after downing dozens of the live bugs as well as worms, authorities said Monday.
About 30 contestants ate the insects during Friday night's contest at Ben Siegel Reptile Store in Deerfield Beach about 40 miles north of Miami. The grand prize was a python.
Edward Archbold, 32, of West Palm Beach became ill shortly after the contest ended and collapsed in front of the store, according to a Broward Sheriff's Office statement released Monday. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Authorities were waiting for results of an autopsy to determine a cause of death.
Three people remain in custody after being arrested on Saturday morning following a traffic stop in Canton. In what was described by Lt. Paul Sullivan as “the most bizarre traffic stop” that he has seen in his 23 years on the force, Canton police responded to a report of a disabled vehicle traveling on Route 95. They came across the vehicle shortly after 2 a.m. traveling in the high-speed lane on the southbound side.
Former male model Francis Fasher of foxboro was arrested for DUI.
“We spotted the green Hyundai Elantra traveling at approximately five miles-per-hour in the passing lane with a huge shower of sparks coming from the rear of the vehicle. As we got closer we noticed that the rear end of the vehicle was dragging on the ground due to the fact that there were no rear tires or axle on the vehicle,” said Lt. Sullivan of the Canton Police. “After the vehicle pulled over, we approached it and found that the driver was not only drinking a can of beer, but that he was not wearing any pants and that he had urinated on himself.”
After not one, but two, brief foot chases, Francis Fasher, 45, of Foxboro, was placed under arrest.
“There were also two female passengers in the back seat,” stated Lt. Sullivan. “One of the females was asleep, partially clad. The other was extremely hysterical. At that time, we believed that she might have been under the influence of PCP, due to the fact that she claimed there were mice biting at her and climbing on her.”
Because of the size of the two women, police were unable to pull the women out of the rear doors of the vehicle. After members of the Canton Rescue Squad cut the roof off the vehicle, and with the help of a crane supplied by Shaugnessy Crane, the women were lifted out of the car. Police estimate the weight of each woman was between 300 and 450 pounds.
Shortly after being extracted from the vehicle, the two women began arguing with each other and blows were thrown. At that point, police arrested 17-year-old Tina “Pebbles” Zonfrelli of Foxboro and 56-year-old Donna Dyers of Lynn. “We followed the drag marks and found that the axle and tires had separated from the vehicle some four miles back. The axle, wheels and tires were found in the parking lot of the Ancient Mariner Lounge located in Foxboro,” stated Canton police officer James C. West. “At this time we believe that the three individuals had patronized the Mariner Lounge for the better part of the day, and that at closing time, they decided to continue the party at Mr. Fasher’s apartment.” Upon entering the vehicle, the combined weight of the occupants caused the axle and wheels to separate from the vehicle. “It is unbelievable that an individual could drive over four miles and not realize that there were no rear tires on the car,” says West. During the search of the vehicle, police came up with an unexpected find. “The interior of the vehicle was very messy. There were beer cans, food wrappers, rib bones, and other rubbish in the car. Under the driver’s seat we found a nest of mice. I guess she did see a mouse,” West chuckled. Police charged Fasher with driving while intoxicated, indecent exposure, urinating in public, disturbing the peace, failure to stay in marked lanes, destruction of public property, assaulting a police officer, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, non-payment of child support, public intoxication, evading police, passengers not wearing seat belts, transporting lab animals without proper permits and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
“We’ve been after this guy for quite some time,” said West. “Mr. Fasher is well known to us. He is a renowned transvestite, and he’s been arrested a number of times for prostitution. In June of 1998, he was arrested six times in one week. In fact, three of those arrests occurred on one day.”
Fasher faces a number of complaints from business owners in Canton and charges have been filed against him by a number of citizens in the community. Four people have filed civil-damage lawsuits against him after their private property was damaged by Fasher. One person has alleged that he had sex with her prize-winning French poodle in her backyard.
Jimmy Chan, owner of Golden China restaurant claims that he assaulted an employee and caused damages to his establishment.
“He drink all morning,” said Chan. “He get crazy. I tell him no more beer for you and he throw Pu-Pu platter at waitress. He a very bad man. He broke very expensive mirror!”
James Marathas, owner of Marathas Carpets, alleges that he found Fasher sleeping in his store when he opened up for business one morning three weeks ago. “He broke in through the back door and passed out right here,” pointing out the spot, said Marathas. “I threw him out but later I discovered that he had urinated all over our entire Persian rug collection, and I ended up with a cleaning bill for $2,600.
Fisher is scheduled to appear in Norfolk County District Court on Monday morning.
A blind drunk diabetic man was given whisky by doctors to cure him of alcohol poisoning.
Denis Duthie, 65, was admitted to Taranaki Base Hospital after he went blind during a heavy vodka drinking session at a 50th wedding anniversary in July, Fairfax Media reported.
Mr Duthie said he wanted to share his story so people, particularly those with diabetes, knew the risks of heavy drinking.
Doctors suspected the Taranaki chef had formaldehyde (methanol) poisoning, and opted to start alcohol infusion into his stomach through a tube.
However, as there was no medical alcohol in the hospital, a medical registrar had to purchase a bottle of Johnnie Walker from a nearby liquor store.
The unorthodox treatment was detailed in Mr Duthie's medical records, which he supplied to the Taranaki Daily News.
He was hospitalised for 10 days before his eyesight returned and he was discharged.
Sons of Anarchy' actor dead in Hollywood murder mystery
Los Angeles (CNN) -- Investigators believe "Sons of Anarchy" actor Johnny Lewis brutally killed his elderly landlord Wednesday before falling to his death as he tried to escape police whose sirens he heard approaching.
It could be weeks before police understand the cause of what they say was a violent rampage by Lewis, 28, that led to the death of Katherine Davis, 81.
Davis died from "blunt head trauma and strangulation," according to preliminary findings from the autopsy conducted Thursday, the Los Angeles County Coroner's office said.
Police suspect drugs were involved, but "we don't have any hard evidence that says he was on anything right now," LAPD Commander Andrew Smith said.
Toxicology findings from the autopsy conducted Thursday by the coroner will be crucial to determining if the actor was under the influence of drugs, Smith added. It is expected to take at least a month before the report is done.
"After 'bath salts,' new drugs are coming out all the time and young people try new drugs all the time," Smith said. "That's, of course, one of the things that our detectives are going to look into, whether he was using that or anything else."
No one saw what happened inside the house where Davis, the homeowner, was found beaten to death, Smith said. The only witnesses were the man who owned the house next door and a painter, who say they were attacked by Lewis before he fell to his death.
Other neighbors told police they heard a woman's screams and glass breaking, Smith said. A large pool of blood where police say Lewis' head crashed onto the pavement remained Thursday in the driveway of the house that has for decades been the temporary home for actors and producers visiting Los Angeles to make movies. The home is in the Los Feliz neighborhood near Griffith Park, on the eastern edge of the Hollywood district of Los Angeles.
The first officer responding to a neighbor's 911 call found Lewis dead in the driveway, Smith said Thursday.
The house "appeared to have been ransacked," with furniture broken, he said. Davis was found dead on the second floor of the three-level house with her dead cat nearby in a "gruesome scene," police said.
Davis, who lived in the home for decades, "typically rented to people in the movie industry, writers and actors, and they would come up here because it's a wonderful, quiet neighborhood," Smith said.
David Thoresen, who has serviced the home's garden fountain for five years, said Davis was a small woman, standing no more than 5-feet, 3-inches tall.
"She was the happiest, nicest lady I ever met in my life," Thoresen said. "I loved Kathy." Lewis lived in the home, which is on a winding, narrow residential street on a hillside on the eastern edge of Hollywood, for about two weeks, Smith said.
While Los Angeles Police would not discuss Lewis' criminal history, CNN has obtained records of two arrests in February on burglary and battery charges in Santa Monica, California. No information was available on the status of those cases.
Lewis is credited with playing Kip "Half Sack" Epps in 26 episodes of the first two seasons of "Sons of Anarchy" on the FX Network, according to the Internet Movie Database. His character was killed in the finale of season two.
"Sons" creator Kurt Sutter, in an extended Twitter posting Thursday, called Lewis' death "a tragic end for an extremely talented guy, who unfortunately had lost his way."
"I wish I could say that I was shocked by the events last night, but I was not," Sutter's tweet said. "I am deeply sorry that an innocent life had to be thrown into his destructive path. Yes, it's day of mourning, but it's also a day of awareness and gratitude. Sadly, some of us carry the message by dying."
This week's episode of "Sons of Anarchy," a series based on a violent motorcycle gang with graphic violence, included the death of "Opie," a major character. Sutter's Twitter posting noted "the sad irony of it happening two days after opie's death is not lost on me." People we've lost in 2012: The lives they lived Sutter told TV writer Alan Sepinwall in an interview published in December 2009 that "Johnny wasn't happy on the show."
"Creatively, he really wanted out of his contract," Sutter told Sepinwell. "We had ongoing conversations, and we decided we'd find some noble way for him to go."
Lewis played Dennis "Chili" Childress in nine episodes of "The O.C." in 2005 and 2006, according to IMDb.com.
His last work was in an independent movie, "186 Dollars to Get Out," which was scheduled to release this month, the IMDb.com listings said.
Lewis, whose full name is Jonathan Kendrick Lewis, was born and raised in Los Angeles. He held dual U.S. and Canadian citizenship, according to his IMDb biography.
