I don't get into "best" debate. That's an argument nobody wins. Based purely on opinion. They were what they were. The biggest during their respective run. That's all I'm saying.
Pantera is one of my favorite alltime bands, so obviously them... I like them for many reasons I have stated multiple times. Anselmo is one of my favorite all time vocalists, Rex and dime were great on their respective instruments, and i think the band as a whole just jelled and sounded great togehter and pretty much started groove metal and was playing a different brand than others were atm. Pantera is great, if you cant admit that, you either never really listned to them, or dont like metal. They dont have to be your favorite band, but they were a great band who influenced music tremendously and put out6 great albums. I love theor sound and style.
Anybody who was actually old enough to understand how big of a deal Pantera was will understand it. If you weren't, then you won't. They were "the" commercial metal band in the 90s.
fixed^

lol commercial? they didnt get radio or MTV play <_>
What? Yes they did, tons of it at that.
Catz, thanks for proving my point. Metal was pretty much in a vegetative state during the 90s. Alternative rock and grunge ruled. There was one band that withstood all that shit and still managed to keep metal in the limelight. That was Pantera. People can spin it how they want to. It was what it was.
I don't know if I would go so far to call them commercial. I don't ever recall hearing them on the radio or getting MTV nods until the whole Dimebag Darrel getting shot story. But they were one of the few blimps of heavy metal on the radar post 1992.

dood, on the radio in the 90's all i remember hearing was grunge and alternative and rap... never any metal. maybe on headbangers ball and specific metal radio stations, but not on the mainstream shit at least around here...
Pantera ruled the south. Sorry bro, that you had you go through that.
its cool, i still liked pantera... thats all i listened to for a few years when I first got into metal. I credit Pantera as my gateway into the heavy music genre

I've never understood why everybody says Metal was dead in the 90's. Sure, it may have not gotten radio play, but has it ever? And I'm not counting Glam bands.
If you ask me, I'd say the 90's were a great time for Metal. Death Metal and Black Metal were on the rise. It was good time for Prog, Stoner, and Sludge too.
why the fukk do you assholes keep saying Metal was dead only Pantera played and kept it alive thats bullshit to the fukkin core... I tuned out so much from comercial shit that i saw pantera cds and thought they were still glam... it was 1998 before i realized they changed their fukkin style
