can't say this is a bad signing at all. jagr was great in the playoffs. didn't score much but he created lots of great chances and most of the time he was unlucky the some goalies made crazy awesome saves against him
"That's another thing I love about metal, it's so fuckin' huge yet certain people don't even know it exists." - Rob Zombie
Jagr played awesome the first few rounds, but was noticably tired in the finals. He has the stick handling still, but the passes and shots missed by a lot. i think his play brought down Sequin's play and is part of the reason Sequin got chased out of town
PHILADELPHIA -- Despite a preseason vote of confidence from ownership, the Philadelphia Flyers fired coach Peter Laviolette on Monday after an 0-3 start.
The Flyers made the announcement at a morning news conference less than a day after Philadelphia dropped a 2-1 decision to the Carolina Hurricanes.
"This is just a gut feeling on my part," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. " Right now, we're not playing the way we have to play ... that's got to change."
Assistant Craig Berube, in his seventh season with the organization, will take over as coach. He is the 18th coach in team history. Ian Laperriere and John Paddock will serve as assistants.
Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov turned himself in to Denver police department detectives Wednesday on domestic violence-related charges. Police said he is in Denver County jail.
Police said Varlamov was arrested on second-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault charges. The kidnapping charge is a Class 4 felony, punishable by to two to six years in prison under Colorado law; the assault charge is a misdemeanor.
The Denver Post reports Varlamov will remain in jail at least overnight because he cannot post bail with an assault charge; he will appear before a judge Thursday morning. Varlamov, jail officials said, is in a cell alone because of his celebrity. When reached by the Post at the jail, he declined an interview with the paper.
"The League is aware of the situation involving Semyon Varlamov," said an NHL spokesman. "We will not comment unless or until we have a fuller understanding of all of the facts and circumstances related to the legal charges that have been filed."
The Avalanche said in a statement the team "is aware of the allegations concerning Semyon Varlamov. At this time, and until the conclusion of this investigation, the Avalanche organization will have no further comment on this situation."
Colorado coach Patrick Roy had no comment when reached by phone by the Post on Wednesday night.
