by the time Datsyuk reached 24 years old he had like 35 career NHL points. Giroux just turned 24 and he has 150 career NHL points
First of all, the Wings always let their prospects season for a looooong time before they make the team. Datsyuk was drafted in 1998 but didn't get on the team until Slava Kozlov got traded in 2001, and in that season he didn't even play much. That team had a shitload of Hall of Famers on it. He didn't really get the chance to contribute until Sergei Federov left in 2003. Point comparisons at the same age don't mean anything really if you're trying to argue who the better player is.
Read what I said above again. Datsyuk didn't get the chance to really step up and produce until the players from the previous generation started leaving, and that was his third season. When both careers are over, we might say ok, Giroux was better. Not right now.
same goes for Giroux doe, he was on a 3rd line for the first 2 years of his career with the first line being the Briere Leno hartnell line, and the 2ns being richards carter and gagne...... so this is basically his first year on the first line and he still produced hardcore gangster with limited playing and especially on the PP. Giroux is da bauss!
I don't necessarily agree with this. Have you seen the passes Datsyuk makes? He creates for other teammates as well as himself. His vision on the ice is incredible. Offensive ability isn't just defined by goals. Not taking anything away from Giroux, he has a nose for the net, but that doesn't make his offensive game better.
EDIT: Just checked the stats and Giroux has a couple more points, so if anything, they're on equal ground offensively.
THey way you just explained Datsyuk is exactly how I would explain Giroux. Just look at how many goals Hartnell has on the line with Giroux. He makes the most ridiculous passes and can score from anywhere on the ice and sets up every other player for a golden oppurtunity to score pretty much on every shift. I think theyre both very similar players. I compare Giroux to Forsberg, just an overwhelming sense of the game and just eyes in the back of his head. I cant wait to watch this dude get better and better!
