So you think Apple should still get that 30% tax on in app purchases?
Apple and Google are providing a service to Epic. They provide the storefront, and the client base. Epic is using their services to get customers, so yes, they deserve a cut.
Just like Epic charges for people licensing the Unreal Engine.
Epic broke their terms of service regardless. They broke the contract they signed that allow them to sell on the Google and Apple stores.
They tried to play hard, and these companies played hard back. Get fucked Epic
So to put it another way, Epic is trying to use the leverage they have to get 2 other corporations to stop fucking over smaller companies, but because you hate Epic so much you’re willing to suck the corporate cock of Apple and Google.

No, to put it the only way: Epic tried getting more money by setting up a workaround secondary store that bypassed Google and Apple app stores. When the app stores played ball back, and booted Fortnite, Epic did what Epic does best and cried "mOnOpOlY "
Because they're a shitty fucking company that cant compete without resorting to hypocritical cheap tactics.
We have 3 companies. Two of them want a 30% purchase tax and less game game loading options, and one wants a lower tax rate and more game loading options...
It's not a tax. It's one business charging another business for services provided. Apple provided the platform, they deserve a cut. Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, and Steam take 30% of every game sold too but you dont hear Epic crying about them. Its because those companies takes less from DLC sales which Epic found a workaround for by making the game free and charging for DLC. They also found a workaround on PC by launching their own storefront.
I find it hard to have any sympathy for a corporation crying about monopolies when they barged into the PC space and began tying games down to exclusive deals on their game launcher.
To be clear, all parties involved suck. But if the billion dollar company (fuck em) can get the trillion dollar companies (fuck em) to charge less, smaller companies who can’t afford the legal fight also benefit.

I hear you. If the byproduct of this battle is a win for indie devs I'll take it. I just dont think thats going to happen.
Its Apple's store. They can charge whatever they want to host your products there. If anything, i can see Apple cutting a deal with the larger developers to take a smaller percentage.
