Something that bothers me about that case is today they said Thug is facing life in prison and they’re using his lyrics against him in court. Lyrics used to not be credible in a court of law on the grounds of entertainment/fantasy. That’s a reeeeeeal slippery slope because where does the line get drawn? Do they now start trying to force cases on any artists that have questionable lyrics? Damn near every rapper has some form of illegal activity in their lyrics whether it’s using drugs, selling drugs, shooting, pimping, etc. Even DRAKE has dropped bars here and there about “I got shooters on go.” even tho it’s not a frequent lyrical theme for him. Shit, the entirety of the song “Star67” is about how he used to allegedly scam and crack credit cards. Rick Ross’s entire career has been cosplaying as an international drug kingpin when he literally used to be a correctional officer and most likely never sold a single bag in his life. But it goes beyond Hip Hop, because you obviously have Metal bands, especially Death Metal, who’s lyrics are basically Horror movie scripts in musical form, talking about decapitating whores and fucking their dead rotting corpses lmao. I mean idk, maybe in this specific case, it’s because they already had real life evidence built against him anyways, so they are now treating his lyrics as an admittance rather than fantasy, but it’s still opening a big can of worms IMO.

Oh I knew about that already, it was thrown out tho right? Plus the time frame makes it different for sure, cause at that point, darker lyrics and imagery were controversial because it was all new and people freaked out, good luck finding a mass album burning these days lmao. But trying to use them legally in 2022 is a lil eye opening. Especially because recent cases where the prosecutors brought up lyrics, it was completely thrown out because the judge dismissed it as legitimate evidence since it’s entertainment.
