It would all depend on references. If people said you were a hard worker no matter what job you did then I'm going to hire that person
If nothing else, I consider myself fortunate that Id have good referrals. I am well-appreciated at my current work and in my 5.5 years with the company have not received ANY adverse action.
You graduated not too long ago right? That definitely helps your case. Its tough out here. I think most companies understand that. The college i go to has a big engineering department and a lot of my friends that have graduated with engineering degrees have worked retail jobs for months or even a year before they got picked up.
yeah I graduated in spring of 15. had I known Id be here now with no offers, Id have taken to working on moving up in my store without second thought, so that Id look way better now.
Its going to depend from Job to Job. What they are going to look at is where you have worked and if any of the skill you have acquired will translate over to the position they are offering.
Regardless of the position you are working holding a job for 5+ years is only going to give them positive thoughts when looking at your resume. It shows you can hold a job and show up for work.Just have an answer for a question like " i see you have had your degree..why haven't you been working in the field yet?"
Interview really aren't about your credentials. Its about impressing the interviewer and sticking out from the crowd of people applying for the job. The biggest factor iv found to be successful with interviews it to find some way to show initiative. Do something that people who are going through the motions wouldn't think to do to show you're a "go-getter"
thats partly why im considering doing volunteer work while either couch surfing or even living in a shelter temporarily. I think a solid 6-12 months of unpaid volunteer work in marketing for a field will go a long way.
lol hell no, Im still there. if I lost this job for whatever reason Id be in a cardboard box on the side of the road. Im just saying as a possibility Id cut my hours down to 10 or so a week so that I could maximize volunteer hours. but again, the issue with that is id be homeless anyway.
honestly its due to an exact combination of shitty factors. worst state for drug charges, one of the most lenient states for job and housing rejections based on anything (as long as you keep it hush hush or site something else... virtually no regulation), and its also one of the cheapest major cities in which to live, which is why relocation is a challenge because anything else is pricier.
