This band Im starting is gonna be fucked up. We havent written anything yet, and our first actual practice is on the 10th. But we've all been coming up with riffs and ideas. And we've talked about what kind of influences we want, and what direction to go. And we're shooting for a "Fleshgod Apocalypse meets Epica meets Dethklok meets Dimmu Borgir meets Anaal Nathrakh meets Nile" kind of thing. I dont even know what to write...
Im not the type of person to ask for advice on where to take your music projects, but i will say this.
Don't try to sound like anyone. Just try to be unique. My goal when i do something creative is to try and be as unique as possible. Why go into it with the pressure of " we need to sound like this or that"
Just go in and jam and eventually if it works our all your personalities will mesh and you will develop something you like.

Thats what Im doing mostly. Using the above as more "references" than going in and trying to copy anything. My only problem is everything I write sounds like DraCru stuff, so Im trying to write differently than I would have for DraCru but Im not happy with anything.
"middle eastern influence" just means lots of harmonic minor scale. also they can want to make music that's heavy/tech/melodic/symphonic/theatric all they want, and you can do that too if you want, but they shouldn't just throw out ideas for sounds if they can't make up the sounds they want.
