"Strat, the way you are criticizing Shane's method of deciding whether he likes an album and than saying you do the same thing when trying to decide on a band is hypocritical."
no... when i first started telling him how bad that method was; it was because he made it seem as if that's how he judged albums. (which means he already had the album; but he just puts it in shuffle and lets itunes decides whether or not he'll even "waste" his time listening to the whole album)
What i said later... after some clearing up by shane. Was that, when specifically looking into a totally new band; the methods he first described (which i disagreed with) were most efficient.
Because its entirely different to check out some random band with 2-3 songs; then decide whether or not to download an album(s).
than it is to have an album... put it on shuffle and decide whether or not "you like" the album.
Not really Strat, just a difference in the amount of time it takes to listen to decide whether an album and band is worth it.
In some cases with a decent internet connection Shane could have the whole album by the time you are done listening to one song. This said, it would be more logical to download every album than listen to it, as opposed to listening to it one or two songs on the internet then downloading it.
I see it like this, it doesn't matter how you are listening to the music. You both are judging a bands work off 2-3 songs. We all do this; there is nothing wrong with it. Except we might miss out on a song we actually enjoy.
No you are not splitting hairs, I understand what you are getting at. You should listen to an album in it's entirety before making the judgment call of whether it is good or not. And that you are judging the band not the album.
I'm just saying it doesn't matter where you listen to the music (youtube, myspace, last.fm, pandora or a download) if you don't listen to the whole album afterward it is the same thing.
Anyhow, I am just having fun. I truly do not care. Going to take some nyquil right now.

I think it's fine to make band decisions without listening to a full album but don't go listening to Run to the Hills then say Number of the Beast sucks.
