When someone asked if the name Astros could be changed, he said he was willing to consider it.
"We're going to study the information from the fans and from all sorts of marketing people," he said. "I'm not saying we're going to change. We haven't made a decision yet."
And CF, no one is arguing the contract is long and it's probably going to handicap the Tigers in a few years when our younger players like Avila are up for extensions. But if it gets the team their first World Series title since 1984, it will be worth it. Our owner is in his 80s and wants to win a World Series more than anything, so he made this move. Plus it's a great PR move as well. Lots of Tigers fans grew up watching his dad play and loved him. It's not a fit financially, but otherwise it's a great fit.
They can make it work positionally right now, it's next year that's going to be a major problem, especially in interleague play when they'll have to take at least one bat out of the lineup unless you can get Cabrera playing in the outfield.
if the owner wants to win that bad, why didn't he bring in a couple of other pieces. it wasn't like you were one big bat from a title before, and fielder isn't really that much of an upgrade over martinez. i don't get it. they had holes they didn't fill and now they've got a logjam at 1B/DH. makesnosense
they actually matchup for a deal with the braves well if they're willing to drop some prospects. we've been trying to deal jair jurrjens and martin prado all winter

The Tigers have wanted Prado all winter long, I know that much. The problem is their farm system isn't great. They have two great prospects that they will only part with for a really good deal, and after that it's meh. They probably couldn't put together a good enough package for Atlanta.
I wish they would try to get a legitimate leadoff man and a fifth starter like Oswalt now.
pretty much every player in the league is this....but now cabby has the best power hitter he has ever had around him...and we have the best pitcher in baseball...if we stay healthy then i think jim leyland would be the only thing that could keep us from winning it all
