the padres are such a scrub franchise. how are you gonna trade a 24 year old frontline starter with no injury history??? i wish every pro sport would just fold some teams to get rid of shit like this and the chris paul trade.
If it makes you feel better two of the players the reds gave up are in the top 6 prospects. Yonder Alonso I think was rated number 2. He's blocked by Joey votto at first. He came up last year and did some left field and sucked at it by my lord can the dude swing a bat. It had been a question around here since the end of the season if the reds would keep votto or Alonso.
You tryin to be a hero fool? You wanna see badass mother fucker?! I'll show ya a badass!!!

it doesn't make me feel better because of what it says about the padres as a system. how do you justify trading away the sort of player latos is? they've basically decided to get rid of a top-of-the-rotation pitcher because he's almost to arbitration status or, more simply, he's going from $460k to $5mil *next year* and they already know they can't afford him. thus, they've decided to go ahead and sell high. in the nfl, this would be as big as the jay cutler trade was, only it's being done for financial reasons and not a bad coaching change. this guy is 6'6", has already thrown a one-hitter and k's nearly a hitter per inning. this is like trading for john smoltz in 1990, before everyone knew how good he was.

it's odd that anyone really thought the reds might trade joey votto this offseason. they don't seem to be into rebuilding at all. looks like the complete opposite.
It's that we could have got the most for votto this year with two years left on his contract. People dont think the reds can keep votto after that. So it was either trade votto or Alonso now

Also expect a 3-4 year deal for brandon Phillips to stay with the reds

Barry Larkin was the only one inducted into the hall of fame this year!
We got mat latos and Sean Marshall.
And this morning I wake up to find out the reds have got Ryan Madson from the phillies. Fuck yeah!
Maybe they will keep going and get us a left fielder then I think we will be set,
