Idk man. Anthrax put out Worship Music in 2011 and it was pretty Damn solid. Both Vektor albums slayed. Gore from Deftones which came out a couple weeks ago is super dope. I don't really like Drake but I can't deny he has some skill. Will probably check the new album but to say there have been no good metal albums in a decade is a bit of a stretch.
Tbh tho most of my favorite records from 2016 have been rock albums. Besides The Body, Oranssi Pazuzu, and Inverloch metal has kinda been lacking this year. I mean really 2016 has been lacking. We get new Vektor and SubRosa this year tho so that'll be lit city.
Black Tusk, Alterage, Tombs, Magrudergrind, Venomous Concept, Gadget, UXO, Conan, Mike & The Melvins, Graves at Sea, Cult of Luna, Greenleaf, Latitudes...
If you want a breakdown of what to check out: Skyforest is an atmospheric black metal band, similar to Woods of Desolation but with more symphonic elements. The Dread Crew of Oddwood are a "heavy mahogany" band - an acoustic pirate themed folk metal band. Bridear is an all female Japanese melodeath band. NilExistence is brutal death metal. tiasu mixes synthwave, chiptune, and power metal into a unique genre. Simon Viklund is an EDM kinda thing. Reign is punky thrash metal. Sun Worship is generic black metal. Alaskan Bull Worm is comedic avante-garde - think Mr. Bungle kind of - my friend is the brain behind the band.

New Nails, Sumac and Gorguts on the way
Tombs was p sick. Same w Magrudergrind. Graves at Sea was cool but too long an album. Rest I haven't listened to. Idk I haven't been feeling most sludge/stoner stuff for the last couple of years really. Bison and High on Fire are the only bands from that scene I still listen to recently. As far as EPs go the new Krallice is killer and I'm fucking heavy with this band Temple of Abamdonment. They're this funeral doom band from Vancouver they got a demo on band camp, it's a single 33 minute track for $1, go cop it. Speaking of doom Loss has a new album this year
Out of those, I'd only consider Black Tusk, Conan and Greenleaf stoner/sludge. Alterage is tech death. Cult of Luna and Latitudes are post-metal. UXO, Gadget and Venomous Concept are noisy/grindy stuff
