best of luck slap. those jobs are unbelievably coveted here, and competition is ridiculous. you pretty much have to know someone to have a chance to get in. probably a bit easier in ca.
How big we talking? What kind of budget are we starting with? Where do you plan to grow? What's the ceiling height? That will help determine what kind of lights to get. How many lights do you want to hang? That will determine how much AC you need. The better you can set up the environment , the easier everything else gets.
Anyway you go about it, ya gotta start with a light to veg them out. I'm currently running a sunsystem 315 l.e.c. for that and getting pretty good growth with it. Plants are way thicker with growth than when I used t5 bulbs to veg. People have gotten nice results flowering with them as well. The 240 volt version is better (draws less amps) but they do have a 110 volt version you could plug into any regular outlet, so it's a great option for starting out, smaller budgets or space constraints. I can run 2 bulbs on in the summer, 3 in the fall, winter, and spring without AC in the room.
A t5 will be cheaper, but production won't be as good, and while you can flower with it, the results won't be as good. The bulbs have to get replaced more often, cost adds up over time, but it a great low budget start. Very effective for a stealth cabinet.
You should be able to find plenty of good grow journals from people running that type of light, or any other type you go with. The biggest factors are going to be space available and start up budget. Start up is hard, keeping it going is pretty easy (and well worth it) he more you invest, the easier it can get, but you have to be smart with where you spend it. Get good genetics, and set up a cozy environment and your off to a really good start.
