Computer question.

So, my computer is absolutely fucked. Most likely a hard disk/C drive failure from the looks of it. Good and bad news. Good, it's under warranty and being repaired for free. Bad, they're most likely going to have to replace my hard drive and said that they won't be transferring anything, so I'm gonna lose all my Music, Music software (FLStudio, Cubase, Reason, Recycle, Etc.) And he was like "I'd suggest to back everything up that you don't want to lose." And that's where the problem is, I told him my computer is so fucked to the point that I can't even start it up to back anything up. It freezes as soon as it gets to my home screen with all the icons. So, he mentioned getting shit transferred at like Best Buy, or any computer place. My question:

Any of you have a rough idea of how much that might cost, and, are there any other ways I can possibly back shit up at this point?

I've had a similar problem, and when I took it in it didn't cost too much. It's definitely worth doing, if it means you can keep all your files.

Take a magnet and carefully wipe it across the hard drive. That will wipe away any malware or trojan horses in the system.

Best Buy is going to charge you out the ass for a simple problem like that. Go to Wal-Mart, buy a flash drive. Go to a local computer repair, compare prices, yadda yadda. It's a really quick process. The person working on it will be able to upload your files on another computer, and you can pick and choose which ones you want to keep.

there are super easy ways to do it for free but I have no idea what you have to work with. First - How would you "back things up" if your computer was not fucked? Secondly, Do you have access to another computer you can use to make either a boot CD or a boot memory stick? (ill send you directions on how to do that if I determine it would help you out).

Took you forever to respond. Im on my phone now and can't look up specifics...but

Google how to make a "live usb fedora boot stick". There is a program you download that will install linux on that memory stick. Then you need to tell your computer to boot from it (maybe hit f8 on boot) and then select stuck. It will boot right on up and look a lot like windows. Don't let the word linux freak you out. Plug your external disk in, and then start copying the files you wanted to save from the computer hd. Should be on desktop.
