I was recently replaying Littlebigplanet and the Battles song Atlas was in the game. I dug it, and looked up the band. I dig this album (which happens to be their debut full length), and the EPs before it. Interesting experimental rock stuff...
But I'm disappointed in their newer stuff. They turned into an instrumental hipster prog/dreamy/art pop kinda band. Which I guess isn't horrible, but I don't like it nearly as much. Sucks when you find a new band you kinda dig, and you aren't really hot on their newer material from the get go.
Their drummer is John Stanier from Helmet and Tomahawk
Huh thats cool.
On another note, they had a vocalist in the band for the release of that debut album and the previous EPs. Tyondai Braxton. I looked him up, he left the band to pursue solo stuff. Which probably contributed to Battles shift. Listening through a few tracks, Braxton's solo stuff is interesting. Kinda experimental noisy electronic.
this is good. kinda goofy, not in their old freak out way, but its way better than anything off the last album. the percussion in the beginning got my hyped as fuck because it reminded me of "grass" and old feels era drumming, but then it got a little goofy, which is still fine.
