I may not listen to him, but I've heard some of his stuff and liked it.
Either way, that's completely irrelevant. The point at hand is that you can't appreciate an incredible peace of music, because the lyrics are meh. That's just sad.
i can appreciate it and like it, probably even love it sometimes ( i love 90s music lol) but im certainly not gonna consider it part of the all time greats.. and the lyrics dont need to be amazing to have amazing heart and emotion....howlin wolf proves that point

the only emotions i ever get from metal is aggressiveness or anger or anything adrenaline related pretty much, ive never felt sorrow, pain, regret, sympathy, or any other type of introspect
and those are pretty awesome metal bands....(minus katatonia) i still think they dont portray it as well as others because they let theyre music do to much of the work..
a good example is NIN's hurt compared to johnny cashs...
you could say that the original displays a good sense of emotion and i would agree with you but thn you hear johnnys version and your like OMG that first version was nothing compared to this

You say all these things about heart, soul, and emotion, and I find all of that in instrumental music, or music that's lyrics may not be heartfelt.

I can name a million rappers who have some incredible lines and lyrics that I don't like. One big one is Tupac, who I just can't get into that much, but he's just a fantastic lyricist. Conversely, I think Pink Floyd have some terrible lyrics but I think they're one of the best bands ever.
i dont listen to much tupac , i just know his hits and they are from from lyrical masterpieces but maybe he is i really dont know him enough. and hence why i dont really like pink floyd, i listen to lyrics for most so if the lyrics are meh theres nothing to lift up
Dude, he fucking rocks lyrically. His shit in Changes and Until the End of Time is magical. Another is Rakim, who is one of my favorite "poets" ever, even though I don't like his stuff.

They're practically My Dying Bride. Don't know how you can like one and not the other. Could you explain this another way? Don't think I quite understand.
Also, Biggie's a better rapper, but Tupac's a better lyricist.

Don't let the solo blind you. Everything prior to that point is some of the most heartfelt, soulful music I've ever fucking heard.
