Part of the point of getting a domain name is to distance ourselves from the actual festival. So I think it would be best to wean our site off the Mayhem name. And it's not that big a deal if there's a metaluprising.net if we get more traffic.....
My opinion is more to get our name out there as a website. Also to make ourselves have our own name as a metal forum, not just a mayhem forum. Also, like J said, if we make ours metaluprising.com, we'll get more traffic
there's another site with that name except it has ".net" so that one is iffy...
To be honest, this is a non issue in my mind.
Firstly, they are from another country. Google.com searches will prioritize local content (your forum) over foreign content (their site), so even searches that match both sites will still prefer this forum.
Secondly, they are smaller than tiny. Alexa has no ranking data for them. None at all. A total of 5 other sites on the internet know about them. Compare that to these forums which, even in their infancy, are linked to by nearly 20x more sites.
Finally, there is a hyphen in their name and they have a .net suffix. Why anyone would choose a .net suffix when .com is available is completely beyond me... but they did it.
These factors combined push them so far off the radar as to make them a non issue.
Do we even know if anyone uses .net? It could be like one of the many unofficial forums people made when the old boards disappeared, that nobody goes on
i like mayhem though... cause this IS mayhem to me... I dunno...
I understand that, but it's hard to think of this site and not think of the festival, because this forum was originally born as a result of that. However, I think we are a big enough community as to where we can benefit from distancing ourselves a bit.

Just my two cents.
