The funny thing is the team that beat Winnipeg in the playoffs of their final season was the Red Wings lol. And now the Wings have potentially the same situation with the Coyotes...
i just dont know why they couldnt have brought this kind of effort earlier. and it still would take a miracle to get back in the series, let alone win it. but yeah i feel better, a sweep would have sucked
They don't have an owner. For the past year the league has had ownership of the team. About 15 years ago, that franchise was known as the Winnipeg Jets and then relocated to Phoenix. Right now, no one is stepping up to buy the Coyotes to keep them in Glendale, so there's a strong possibility a buyer will move them back to Winnipeg.
Basic premise is true, but your details are fuzzy.
There is a possible owner for the Coyotes to keep them in Phoenix named Matthew Hulsizer. The NHL has been trying to complete the sale to him for the last 3 months. But the actual details of the deal apparently greatly upset former owners the Goldwater group. They sued the town of Glendale and said the sale is unconstitutional. They have been at a standstill for 2 months now.
The NHL is getting fed up and has said that after this season they will no longer control the Coyotes as they have done for the last 2 years.
If the deal with Hulsizer turns out to be 100% dead, rumor has it that the NHL will return the team back to Winnepeg. They're not looking for a potential buyer in that situation either. They already have an ownership group in place that will buy the team immediately with no forseeable issues.
They already have a good arena (although it is small) so that is not a problem either.
And even if the coyotes do miraculously end up staying on Phoenix (which they probably won't) there is a very good chance that the Thrashers will be relocating this summer as well.
Just figured I'd bring everybody up to speed on what is pretty much exactly going on in Phoenix.
I could really care less about what's going on with phoenix lol
That's fine lol. Just wanted the people who maybe did want to know to be able to understand the confusion of the Phoenix situation.
I wouldn't care honestly, if I were a Wings fan either.
but as an Islanders fan, and the possibility of my team relocating as well, i have to pay attention to this. Phoenix going to Winnepeg, and Atlanta going to Quebec would be excellent for me and my team.
Although I hate to wish that on fans of those teams, but I have to.
That's why I've been paying attention to the situation so closely.
